Ugh we know already FFS. The world sucks and will eat you alive. Thems the ropes kids. The internet isn't being "destroyed" by bullying. His youtube fame corner of it may be, but I don't think he realizes that the internet is SO much bigger than youtube, twitch and, twitter. If bullying was truly eating these services from the inside out then they'd die out, then they would be replaced with new services. Sure the internet is a vicious place but ultimately it's the survival of the fittest, people and services that can put up with the abuse will flourish and those who can't will die out. Then as previously stated they will be replaced. The point I'm trying to make is yes bullying sucks but this isn't the end of anything.
It boggles my mind how people can be this bothered by being called fat or ugly or whatever There are so many more terrible things which people deal with so much better

Being called fat or ugly once or twice, sure. It's just one or two people. Being called something like that over and over and over your whole life with no sign of it ceasing? I don't care how tough shit you are. It's going to get to you.
Another one of these videos? Really? Instead of uploading videos where he cries about how bad it is to be called names, why doesn't he do something about his weight? And please don't post that video where he says "it's impossible for me to lose weight!", I used to be a fatty several years ago and lost a lot of fat within a single year by cardio during summer time (it's cold here when it's not summer) and just regulating my diet. Though with an attitude like that he won't lose weight.
I think its really fucked up that this guy was once making YouTube videos daily playing WoW and LoL but now seems that his most recent videos are of him trying to help other people before helping himself, As he said himself "Receiving death threats is like waking up in the morning", why are you guys so hostile towards him? he is trying to reach out to people just like you
I used to be a fatty several years ago and lost a lot of fat within a single year by cardio during summer time (it's cold here when it's not summer) and just regulating my diet.
Yeah that's great and all, but you are not everyone.

Either bullshit or you were not that fat or you were starving yourself.
So, he wants massive companies to invest billions of dollars in anti-online harassment systems, or w/e because he feels that it will inevitably destroy the internet? Unless he's referring to things like swatting, and or posting peoples addresses and full names then he's being dumb. If he's sick of YouTube comments in particular, then he can neuter those too using banned words.

The problem with this divide between gamers lately, is that it's preventing real, constructive discussion about two very important issues. Boogie has been harassed for supporting journalistic integrity, harassed for denouncing harassment, simply because by supporting one, it's seen as 'taking a side'. I hope moderate, rational people like Boogie can eventually break through the wall dividing people and create real discourse. I have a lot of love for this man.

I get that online harassment is horrible, and make no mistake - it IS horrible, but I don't know if it can really be stopped. The most wonderful part of the internet is that people can freely say and talk about whatever they want and assume an identity (or lack thereof) of their choosing. It really, really sucks that some people take that amazing thing and abuse it to cause pain to others. But unless we limit freedom and take away the power to use the internet for free expression with anonymity, I don't think internet harassment can be stopped. There have been measures and rules put in place to moderate and attempt to stamp out abusers, but as the internet is anonymous, there are any number of ways to avoid bans and continue. Unless we actually discard anonymity entirely, which I have seen proposed before by major social media heads, I just don't see it being possible to completely flush out. And frankly, I don't ever want anonymity to go away. That idea actually scares me. It's not because I've done anything wrong; I just don't want my name and my face out there and attached to whatever opinions I express or works that I post online. As you use the many services on the internet, you leave a digital paper trail that lasts pretty much forever. If our actual identities were attached to everything we ever did online, then there would be no escape from any past actions or mistakes. The harassment would just trickle into the real world and follow us even outside the internet. It sucks, but that's just how it is. The best we can do, at least as far as I can see, is to lend support and good words to those who are affected by harassment. Anonymity can be used for more than just being mean.
I don't think any kind of harassment will go off from the world.
I don't think any kind of harassment will go off from the world.
But can we reduce it, and better counter it when it happens?
I think that if you want to be famous and successful, if you have to be willing to take stuff like this. I'm not saying that it's ok or anything. It's almost like talking about how to stop pirating, no matter what companies do, there is going to be someone out there that will found a way around it. The only way I can think to fix online harassment is to completely get rid of anonymity and that's one of the defining features of the internet.
But can we reduce it, and better counter it when it happens?
no. people are going to be people, and in general people aren't very nice. we can't just soften up the whole world and hope everything is going to be a-okay because people are mean to us. yes, harassment is bad. death threats are terrible. but at some point you have to accept that the world isn't perfect, it's actually pretty bad. a woman in iran just got executed for killing her rapist, multiple people in saudi arabia are beheaded every day for trivial and inhumane reasons (implying there is any reason to behead a human being, that is) and even worse things go on in other places. the world is pretty terrible. we're not going to fix it. people are going to be shitty everywhere for a long time, if not forever. you can either deal with the fact that the world is shitty or choose to live in a delusional state of mind that we can fix the world and even end harassment on the internet.

"There are starving children in Africa" type arguments basically just tells whoever is having whatever other problem isn't experiencing something worth caring about. All problems matter in some shape of form. Referring to people not wanting to see harassment as being too soft is also part of the problem.
