My old boss only wanted us to call out sick if we were throwing up, otherwise it's bullshit.

My friend had a boss like that
it was especially worse because he worked at Subway was one of the food makers

Sounds like you had a shitty boss
I got fired from my first job because I got sick for 2 days. It's absolute bullshit
Is he really doing a mixtape?
Or the need to get sick notes. Fuck sick notes.
I had a week bout' with the flu which left me with a 103F temp for five days and a two day cool off period where I could barely talk or move from my bed, yet because I didn't have a little piece of paper stating, "Mr. Dura is sick, pls let him have a day off" I lost my job. On Wednesday this happened by the way.
The worst part about it, is that my boss was going to let me have the sick days, but he just wanted a sick note to confirm my illness, but because the doctor's around here feel like they can stop them big mean ol' superbugs, they refused to let me have one more day to clear my system and refused to give me anything to help clear my system. Just basically make me pay $20 to sit in their office and have them tell me I have the flu really bad, need rest, but then wave the middle finger at me and refuse to give a doctor's note to me.
And because of all this, I'm unemployed. Such is the wonders of being sick from work.
8:54pm -> 6 to 9 -> 69
That's the only significance I could come up with :v:

Well, I see you're from the US so this might be a problem but here you call to your job in the morning (the sooner the better) then go to the doctor who will give you a paper that proves you are sick that you then deliver to your job when you're healthy again. I don't have all the details but it sounds like you could sue your boss.

This was a minimum wage job where it was at will employment.
At-will employment is a term used in U.S. labor law for contractual relationships in which an employee can be dismissed by an employer for any reason (that is, without having to establish "just cause" for termination), and without warning.
They could fire me for p much any reason with no repercussions.

I thought it was part of the video at first, then when I paused it I was confused as to why it kept going.
Even pausing the stream doesn't stop the audio from playing.
It autoplays in the quote as well but delayed, so you have this random talk echoing when you open the page
fp pls

I've got two GradeA streams playing on top of the video because you quoted it, what a confusing five minutes it's been.
I called in literally 25%of my shifts at Walmart still never got fired. I quit though. Fuck Walmart
My I'm sick voice might as well be my default voice for them
I have had this sudden realization that GradeAUnderA is like those comedians that use airplane food as the main joke.
I've called out sick all of twice in the nearly 3 years I've worked for this company and I have had pretty much the same reaction despite knowing that co-workers call out on an almost monthly basis. It's absurd.
I'm very happy that I now work for a company that doesn't really have sick time. Or the need to literally call in sick. Just send an email "wfh nfw <eom>" or "ooo nfw <eom>" as the subject. End of story.
Back in the day when I worked at a supermarket and I called in sick it sucked.
I worked at a call center for 2 years and getting sick is brutal. Not only our pay gets docked if we don't come in to work, whether we have a sick/doctor's note or not, but we have to come in to work to stamp in 30 minutes before the shift and stamp out 30 minutes later so that we don't accumulate 'attendance points'. We basically get 2.0 points if we're absent without making a call to our supervisor/team leader, 1.5, for being absent but made a call, 1.0 if we stamp in and leave earlier than the intended shift, and 0.5 for being late at work or if we stamp in with a sick note. Once we reach 5 attendance points we're subject for termination, and if we don't get terminated we'll be forfeit for any incentives or bonuses, and at worst get a penalty percentage on our hourly pay until it resets again after 6 months.
I feel really bad especially for the people that live so far away from the office and get a nasty flu or something, since they can't even rest properly since they have to go in every night to stamp in to work and go home again just to avoid accumulating attendance points and not receiving their pay for the month. The only time they gave exceptions if the employee is in labor, or they have a really serious disease that results in being confined to the hospital, where a doctor from the hospital would personally call the office and send a letter confirming the disease.
Fuck man, the stuff you guys are saying kinda makes me like my shitty retail job. Per contract with the union managers aren't allowed to give you shit or ask why you're calling in. All you have to do is call in at least an hour before your shift starts and you'll recieve 1 point, .5 if you go in and then leave. 12 points total for a year before you're fired and they can't fire you unless you point out or really fuck up.
I still get nervous though

These sound awful. I get that they don't want to incentivize people just dodging work but fuck, people are people. They get sick.

They call that situational comedy
Personally I think the concept of actually losing your job because of something out of your control is 100% bullshit. What are you supposed to do? Live in a literal bubble? That's the only conceivable way to not get sick.
These sound awful. I get that they don't want to incentivize people just dodging work but fuck, people are people. They get sick.
I personally think my work is extremely lenient, it's hourly so you're only really fucking yourself over if you call in when you're not actually sick (guilty).
He's at least relatable. I was down for the count with hip issues that meant I couldn't walk, so I called out for a foot patrol shift with plenty of notice and then laid on my couch in agony for the better part of that work-night and my next day off.
Meanwhile, Captain Fuckstick rolls into work, does a single patrol, then determines he's no longer capable of patrolling because he broke his leg that weekend. Yes, that's the excuse he went with while standing in front of his supervisor. He kept his job until he called out / didn't show up at all for all five of his shifts in a week. Fucking people.
They call that situational comedy
observational, usually joking about common/relatable things
also with my job if I call in sick I usually get emergency-level projects that need to be done handed to me and I end up using teamviewer to remote into my work computer and plug away all day, often going longer into the night than if I had just gone to work, all the while my manager just telling me "oh why don't you just get some rest and we'll write you a PTO form :)", like no if you're giving me unavoidable work and I can't even get rest, I'm not using up precious vacation time while I do my job
Working conditions in America are awful. They aren't that awful over here.
I knew someone who's boss made them come in even though they had the flu.
That seems pretty illegal, they just tried to make my friend quit by making the work environment really really bad.
