thought this was a crowbcat video until I heard him speak
That Mass Defect: Andromeda collectors edition got me thinking. If game companies can get away with releasing a collectors edition that doesn't include the game, then who says they can't release a collectors edition for a game that doesn't even exist? You know what I'm thinking, don't you?

"INTRODUCING: HALF LIFE 3: THE BOREALIS EDITION, featuring the Raising the Bar: Part 2 Artbook and Lifesize Alyx Vance statue [del]blowup doll[/del]
*Game not included. Game will not ever be released.*
Wait is that Mass Effect one for real. They sell collector's edition of games without the fucking game? What?

How much would people pay for one of those Akihabara sex figurines of Alyx?

honestly its not a bad idea because like say you buy the game digitally and don't want a second copy of the game, it lowers the price on the collector's editions.
though most collector's editions aren't good. Half considered getting Mafia 3's recently only because it was 30 bucks. the vinyls it has are neat.
"Game Not Included" makes sense and always will. Rather than selling two to four different SKUs of the same exact product (depending on how many different releases there are for various consoles/PC), you can sell a single SKU, minus $60 for the price of the game, for all the extra collector's edition shit separate from the actual game. It prevents shelfwarmers, alleviates publishers having to figure out which platform is going to need more stock (Sorry, we only got 3 PC collector's editions in! Did you want one of our 50 PS4 copies?), and simply lets you buy the shit separate if you literally just want the collector's edition shit if you're in it for the merch.
Everything else in the video was right, though, these collector's editions are overpriced and built like garbage.
I forgot the Dead Island bust was an actual thing.
Who even came up with that and thought it was good to ship.

But it says dunkey on the thread title

but how is it an "edition" of the game if it doesnt even come with the game
at that point its a completely separate product from the game and frankly the game is half of the incentive

They did it with Mirrors Edge: Catalyst to :v:

It's not a collector's edition then. It's just a fan pack
Video games were a mistake.
The Wolfenstein II collector's edition is pretty nifty

It would make sense if it it actually lowered the price. From what I can tell, these cost just as much without the game as with it.

I did this with Battlefield 1 last year and the version without the game was 60 bucks cheaper.

I don't mean the ones where the game is optionally included, but collector's 'editions' where that's not an option.
I'd be very surprised if the publishers didn't take this as an opportunity to hike up the price/value without hiking up the absolute price.

That does make some sense when it's a game releasing on multiple platforms, since certain games will sell better on certain platforms. At that point they should call it a "Limited Time Merchandise Box" or something more grand-sounding for marketing that clearly states that it's just the physical merchandise and not the game itself.
Having 100 units of the collector's box and letting people get an in-store discount when buying both the game and collector's box is definitely much better than having a bunch of unsold console-tied collector's boxes because people weren't buying the game for a certain console.
But if it's a game releasing exclusively on one platform, the game should always be included with a collector's edition, since at that point you're most likely buying the collector's edition for the game and merchandise.
but not x though. X was good. In fact, I still have x in my closet.
Surprised there was no mention of that hunk of green plastic Dark souls gave out
Just imagine that you are kind of thinking if you should buy this 300+ dollar collectors edition and after some consideration you finally agree that it will be worth the 300 something dollar till you find out that you have to dump another 60$ on top of it for the game and most likely another fucking 50-60 dollars for the season pass

I knew a guy who bought the collectors edition of Dark Souls 3 when it came out along with a separate PC version because he said it was his preferred platform.

Reminds me of this gem.

Imagine a company trying to justify $400+ on 1 video game. Fucking terrible.
The FEAR 3 collectors edition came with a 7” statue of naked pregnant Alma with a glow in the dark belly.

Thats ingame footage, right?
im a fan of collectors edition of games and the worst offender of collectors editions is each one has a shitty statue so i dont ever attempt to save for one. its just a lazy way to make a collectors. Ones like Destiny 2 is awesome, because it has a high quality 3-way bag (Messenger/Backpack/sling. tons of pockets.) with paracord, solar phone charger, solar blanket, and a cabal book that has a ton of cool art and lore for the game thats really good. if your a major fan for a game its easily worth it.
Other fun gimmick collectors include:
-Call of duty black ops 2, which had a huge black case you can use for storage and a RC drone.
- Halo:Reach had a lore-dump book full of fun in-world collectables.
- COD:MW2 had a actual night vision goggle.
The markups they have on collectors editions are fuckin outrageous. Like the call of duty one with some $20 rc car in it going for like $200, I dont get why people will pay that much for something like that. If you want an RC car, bag, kite, dildo...whatever, just buy one, you can get one with much higher quality for cheaper than the crap they cram into those collectors editions.

iirc the guy who designed this character got annoyed because he kept getting told to make the head smaller and the muscles bigger so he went all out and the design was accepted.
I also believe he now makes items for DOTA 2 now because the chance of getting an item in DOTA is better than working for Gearbox.
