Rumor is that its gonna be a "create a character" kind of scenario, but I highly doubt it.

They really missed an opportunity to bring back Adventure/Lost World Sonic as the third character.

At least, I'm hoping that is the case and we won't have to worry about cross contamination of both series in the future.

I think what's making it hard to think of anyone for the new character is that beyond the ears and facial fur sticking out, they just have generic gloves and shoes with no other details to speak of. Which doesn't help with the "create a character" idea some people have, given that it's so detail-less that it's hard to really align it with anyone old or think that a new character would seem so generic.

I'm kinda hoping it is a create-a-character situation, since that's usually my favorite part about a game, especially if I can make them hideous and deformed. I have a feeling though, whatever the character is, they're going to show up, serve their purpose and leave 'forever' at the end of the game... then get brought back because of popularity.

The fact that Sonic Chronicles, a Bioware-made game that probably isn't canon anymore, caused a shitstorm via Ken Penders due to having a character that is pretty much one of his Echidnas as an OC donut steel in terms of role and circumstance doesn't help (and neither does the gist of the plot practically being a ripoff of at least one plotline from the comics); SEGA would probably sooner burn the Archie Sonic comics down than let that shit fester in the main franchise.

to be fair, they're implying that the story is cross dimensional, so they could really dig as far as they want to. maybe we'll get sonic underground sonic (including the siblings all voiced by jaleel white)
