Imagine if that one kid we all know ("My Uncle Works For Nintendo") had this.
School wide pocket WMD.
the fact that he also figured out how to straight up breed shinies directly from the first gen is pretty wild too, i gotta say
It would be cool if they can use this for more than just trading forward in the Poke Bank; like making a real life creepy pasta kinda thing, where the save file just forces the second game to load into an 'empty' area with Lavender Town music and random ghost encounter tiles.
I don't know if that much is actually possible though, but I know at an AGDQ they showed off a manipulated save file that edited one of the maps and added a scripted encounter.
In some ways I'm surprised it took this long to work out an ACE for the trade centre. Buffer overflowing like that isn't exactly a super complex thing.
Really quite neat though, and that little bit about it still working in the VC releases makes sense, the VC is a near perfect emulation of the original system, bugs and all to ensure it just works.
Boy the next AGDQ "watch us break pokemon" segment should be entertaining.
This is some impressive stuff.
I love how they keep figuring out new ways to fuck with the old Pokemon games. :v:
Wait. Has anyone tried transferring Missingno to Pokebank? Does it work?
Wait. Has anyone tried transferring Missingno to Pokebank? Does it work?
it can't be traded through the time capsule so it can't touch second gen, and even if it could it would stop there since there's no compatibilitiy between second and third gen

But you can transfer pokemon to pokebank straight from red/blue on the 3ds virtual console version.

AFAIK you can't.

oh I didn't know that
but I'm 100% certain pokebank would refuse since missingno isn't a valid pokemon from those games

Not only that, but glitch pokémon can glitch the transfer process and shift the names of subsequent legit ones in the box.
I really hope they fix that and the way the transfer (doesn't) preserve IVs and EVs.
AFAIK you can't.
I think I'm gonna have a big ass cry...
I think I'm gonna have a big ass cry...
Why would they allow it? Its a bugged Pokemon that can corrupt games.
Why would they allow it? Its a bugged Pokemon that can corrupt games.
Step 1: Create Missingno
Step 2: Transfer it to newer Pokemon games
Step 3: Upload to Pokebank
Step 4: Havok
Make missingno a canon pokemon already.

That's the fun part.

What do you think is under Mimikyu's costume?

or even a deranged cleafairy.
There's a lot that's been going on with Pokemon ACE lately. This person managed to code a 2-player pong game that works over a link cable.

Doesn't missingno just become a random pokemon with shit stats when you transfer it to Gen 2?
Doesn't missingno just become a random pokemon with shit stats when you transfer it to Gen 2?
That should happen for most glitch Pokémon. There are a couple unused species id's in Gen 2 still, though, so it isn't guaranteed that it won't still be a glitch Pokémon afterwards.
In the trade center, MissingNo., due to its index number, appears as many different Generation II Pokémon from the perspective of Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. For a full list of the Generation II Pokémon MissingNo. can appear as, see list of Pokémon by index number (Generation I). If the player tries to trade MissingNo., a message will appear stating "Your <name> appears abnormal." and the trade will automatically be cancelled.
