That's a surprise to me.

I guess you're unaware of his like three other "retirements" then?
That was pretty great.
Moe being the scarecrow [sp]prince[/sp] is probably one of his more optimistic roles.
So of course it only lasts for like 3 seconds on screen.

Does that kind of music have a genre name other than "Anime soundtrack" because goddamn I need more of it in my life

Studio Ghibli's OSTs are usually like that.

Whimsical whimsy music?
I have no idea who Hayao Miyazaki is, I guess I'll look him up
No Princess Mononoke reference? Unless it was something small in the background

He's only the Biggest thing for Japanese animation in all of Japan and western culture.
Porco Roso, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away.
Even some small but nice projects like the first five episodes of the Sherlock Holmes Anime, and Lupin the 3rd, Castle of Cogliostro.

Like people have said, Studio Ghibli's music tends to be like that because of them using the same composer (Joe Hisaishi) for most of their major films.
Although personally I find it closest to Spirited Away's 'One Summer Day'.

Hayao Miyazaki is one of those people that can justify using anime in his films. He doesn't use it because kawaaii desu big tits, he uses it because cartoon animation can in some respects top live action through the amount of creative possibilities you can have in it. I mean sure you can have walking fluff people who are also ghosts and a scarecrow that is a human and bounces around in other artstyles, but with the japanese animation style it just fits.

His movies are some of the only anime I watch. I'm glad he came out of retirement as he and his movies are brilliant.

I'm not quite sure how to respond to that. If I did, there's a lot of ground to cover.

I can kinda see where he's coming from but at the same time it just seems like he hasn't dug in well enough into the genre.
