DeviantArt will rejoice.
Build a mech out of this. Please
Lets build some Mjolnir armor out of this thing!
Seriously, no ultra slowmo impact? Not even any footage where the camera is focussed on the plate. Missed chance imo.

Not really getting thicker, just the coating that's meant to catch any fragments from bullets that fly away when they hit the plate is mushrooming outwards from absorbing them. Pretty impressive for the plate, but even more impressive that the coating was able to catch that many fragments. Usually something like that would be compromised within a few shots and fragments would be flying off everywhere
Holy shit that guy Chad looks like one of the heads you can use in Arma 3.
the interesting thing here is the coating, not the plate itself. it's a rifle plate, of course it catches pistol rounds

A AR500 .308 rated plate can stop handgun rounds? woooooooooooooow
A AR500 .308 rated plate can stop handgun rounds? woooooooooooooow
I think they're mainly just showing off the coating, as pretty much everyone knows what an AR500 plate can stop thanks to Demolition Ranch and Taofledermaus.
I think they're mainly just showing off the coating, as pretty much everyone knows what an AR500 plate can stop thanks to Demolition Ranch and Taofledermaus.
Then they should have shot it with rifle rounds instead of handgun rounds. That coating is real neat and all but they should have tested the plate with things its actually meant to get hit with and stop. [editline]29th November 2014[/editline] Hitting that plate with handgun rounds to show off its coating is like tossing cherry bombs at a tank to show off its new ERA plating.

Hitting the plate with handgun rounds is like shooting an RPG at ERA, it's gonna have the same effect as whatever else ERA is supposed to stop. You'd have a point if he was shooting a Red Ryder at the plate.

The video isn't a good test or a good comparison for the actual plate. Yea, it can stop handgun rounds but if a .308 rated plate wasn't able to do that then it would be rated for .308. If you're not going to use an intermediate or full size rifle round on the plate to show off the new coating, then you might as well just shoot .22s at it, because its going to do the same exact thing as hitting it with a 9 or a 45.
The US government want's to ban body armor? That's fucking stupid and I don't even see a good argument why not a civilian should be able to protect their vital organs when protecting their property. Though if I lived in the US I would not even bother getting a body armor until I could get a helmet just as bullet-proof, like a helmet that covers the entire head. Does bullet proof visors exist? You know, otherwise the intruder can just shoot you in the face, and that means you die. When I can have something like this, and it's actually not bullshit, I would consider investing in this kind of stuff.
The US government want's to ban body armor? This is:

They have issues with civilians getting military level gear. Which I can understand, but we kind of have a constitutional amendment that says we should be allowed to own them. On topic, I was kinda disappointed they didn't even bring out a light rifle against it. Having a second plate set up for rifle rounds after showing off what it can do against pistol rounds would've been nice. It's cool that it stops .44 and .45 ACP, but as said previously it's kind of a given considering its rating.

I don't get why you're attacking a business trying to sell protective equipment.
There are some good reasons for civilians to own body armor, and some bad reasons for civilians to own body armor. Want to not get killed by gunshots? Cool, have you some plates. Want to do bad things and not get killed by gunshots? Cool, have you some plates. Either way, if the government sees an issue with it, they can make their case for banning civilian sales of such items.

It has only one funtion, to keep you not dead by bullets, which is concerning from a police perspective.

I would love to wear body armor sometimes though I've never hopped out of an ambulance ready to shoot someone.
Uh, give me one practical application for body armor for your average citizen. "Honey, I think I heard a burglar get the Kevlar."
not dying when I get shot with a gun would kind of be one and also like the only reason you need oh and not dying
I work as an EMT in Detroit, not metro Detroit, Detroit Detroit. I would love to wear body armor sometimes though I've never hopped out of an ambulance ready to shoot someone.
And you work alongside police so it would make total sense that you'd need the protection. I'm not saying no civilian should be able to purchase body armor, I'd personally find it alarm raising if I saw that they were wearing body armor outside of a reasonable scenario. It should definitely be an ATF regulated item that requires paperwork.
not dying when I get shot with a gun would kind of be one and also like the only reason you need oh and not dying
When do you plan to get shot, or will you just wear it to work everyday?
And you work alongside police so it would make total sense that you'd need the protection.
Not really. They sometimes respond to the same calls, but not always. And sometimes the innocuous calls are the dangerous ones. I know a few EMTs, and they all have stories about people fighting them and trying to genuinely injure them for whatever reason. Sometimes it's the person they're trying to treat, sometimes it's not.
To feel safe from the government or some other invading force... I'm going to protect my body AND my rights.
You should never fear you're government since the government is the people and when faced against the people it has no power. Really? Who's going to invade the US? Canada? North Korea? Why are Americans so paranoid?
