morrowinds main quest and atmosphere were so damn hype when i first played it through, not many games were that awesome after that infact, not many games have made me as immersed as morrowind... the witcher series does a great job though. i guess what im trying to say is, good writing is sometimes really appreciated from video games.
I still think Morrowind is the best Elder Scrolls game. In no other game could I jump 10'000 feet in the air without using cheats and then fall to the ground like a feather as if nothing happened. I could even bring a god to his knees with my bare hands. Hell, I even created a spell once that rendered enemies unable to move as it permanently lowered their strength by 100. And then I shot them with a spell that made their armor break, essentially stripping them naked. I ended up with towns full of naked, hostile statues.
Oh god those disgusting texture mods. Anyway, anyone who doesn't realize that Morrowind's story is the best of TES is a dummy. Skyrim was an environment-driven game, however, while Morrowind was a story driven one.
"barely played it" 119 hours
Man I was around 10 when Morrowind came out, and all I remember is how intimidating the world was. The best part was that almost every NPC in the game could beat the shit out of you, even simple shopkeepers.
He's correct about it though, what morrowind lacked in gameplay and advanced complex AI and shit, it made up for in an amazing world with great writing and excellent pace. The only criticism I have of it, is that it forced you to explore the world instead of just punishing you for fucking with the harder quests. Which is a very small criticism, all things considered. Everything in Skyrim was mediocre except for the one feature they shoveled at us through all the press releases, the environment design.
Morrowind is a better game, that's for sure. It's just dated and doesn't play as nicely. I sure as hell enjoy the writing and story in it a lot better, but I'm not able to enjoy the gameplay as much anymore when i try to re play it.
Im just even more excited for Skywind.

In essence, it's a lot more "fantasy" than the generic-ness of Skyrim's nords. Skyrim is decent but doesn't even come close in that regard.

Morrowind, like you said, was a completely alien province. This made both the artstyle and the culture to be extremely interesting because it was completely new. That's why I'm eagerly waiting for a TES game on the Summerset Isles.
When he got to the boring part. I just lost it. Your the one with the problem sure the writing and how quest are done suck but it's no excuse to not play a TES game.
Yes I couldn't really explain why I disliked Skyrim but this is it exactly.
Oh my god I hate it when certain events in games are played up to be big and important but end up having an impact that's weak and flaccid. It makes me feel like a dumbass for ever giving a shit.
Am I the only one that noticed he had eight fucking torches in his quick inventory? Why do you need eight fucking torches?
It's almost as if they forgot that it's not just enough to have the various fantasy game things like swords, magic, quests, items etc but that they also have to actually be good and well designed. I played skyrim for way longer than it's good for and the whole thing is just a blur, it's simply too loose and mediocre to be a memorable experience for me. I know this is a totally stupid comparison but consider that it only takes a game like journey 2 hours to affect you and skyrim can't do it in all of 200 hours. The game is so far from being unplayable, but after reading so many opinions of skyrim over time it seems like everybody has that meh feeling about it. Nothing in skyrim holds up under scrutiny. I think that morrowind does a lot wrong in comparison to the mythical perfect rpg but it really feels like they actually designed everything together properly. A hell of a lot of thought went in to that world.
imagine actually thinking that skyrim is better than oblivion wow [editline]25th April 2014[/editline] if he likes writing and world building so much the fact that he likes skyrim more than oblivion is super surprising and contradictory
Am I the only one that noticed he had eight fucking torches in his quick inventory? Why do you need eight fucking torches?
are you saying you don't have completely unnecessary/impractical kleptomania
are you saying you don't have completely unnecessary/impractical kleptomania
I spend most of my time in Elder Scrolls games in the markets, getting rid of every single thing I don't need. If I don't need it, I don't keep it.

I always love channels like this. Do you guys any know more?
I'm on my phone right now so sorry no link but search YouTube for shoddycast - they do an elder scrolls and fallout lore series with some impressive production values

I'm already subscribed to him (and Matthewmattosis and Errant Signal), but thanks. Any others?
When I first saw Super Bunnyhop in the title, I thought this thread was going to be about the Morrowind speedruns where they jump across the map and fight the last boss straight away. Like this: I really liked the video though. The arguments were really well thought out and his jokes were pretty good. I especially liked when he edited the little party-blower sound over the "All hail the Dragonborn" sequence.
is this that one guy from the best gamers? or is his voice just similar
Morrowind was definitely the most exciting experience I ever had as a teen. It's kind of what made me want to make videogames for a living. It's weird because the dated combat an AI makes me unable to play it again. If I could play Morrowind exactly how it is with updated graphics, Skyrims combat, and AI. I would never leave my room again.

Was it bad of me to have made the first TES game I've played Skyrim? Don't get me wrong, it's fun, I'm just wondering if I should have started with one of the older games first.

You could try Morrowind with a graphical overhaul, or try Skywind or something like that. Playing the older ones first might have turned out off, because they ARE pretty dated.
