If you don't know what a Drum Corps is, they are an elite super competitive 'marching band' (if you can even call it that) here in the US. They only consist of brass and percussion, and are pretty badass. This is a finals performance from a show last year, and this corps won second place in the DCI World Championship. Even if you get bored with parts of the show, please take a chance to watch the entire thing, as there are some really cool moments in the show. [sp]also, this was kind of an excuse to post this video before it gets taken down, as it's one of the highest quality DCI vids on youtube right now[/sp] Also, I think the show is about when Private Pyle loses his mind in Full Metal Jacket, so that's a plus.
I don't find band stuff lame. It's probably the only good thing my school has.

Unless you're from one of those highschools where the band wins every major competition and everything else at the school is really crappy.

I've been going to DCI in Atlanta every year since 2005... The cav's machine show was a work of art. I marched alto sax in high school... Sorta wish I went with the mellophone instead though. I fucking loved the "This is my rifle" part where all brass had a rifle, Best part of DCI 2010 for sure!
wow so many nerdes.
that was really well co-ordinated and impressive but to be fair it also looked pretty gay
They're show was really bad ass, better than whatever that shit the Blue Devils had.
It must take a ton of training to do that. I mean look at how long it is, a single mistake would fuck the whole thing up. They have to know exactally where they are and move at the same speed and such to a precise spot, and all the while they're having to play their instruments and toss flags and wooden guns and stuff. Must be a lot of pressure. :ohdear:
I actually got to meet these guys a few months back. They were pretty badass. We got to trade hats.
The coordination is very impressive, but I don't get it.
Trippy as fuck.
that was really well co-ordinated and impressive but to be fair it also looked pretty gay
If it looks gay, that's probably because the Cavaliers (The corps in the video) are one of the few corps to be all male.
Trumpets represent.
I hate that in DCI there are no trombones, you rarely see valve trombone at the best. There are extremely talented baritone players though. I've been going to the DCI show in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, every year since they have been coming here. Not a fan of narration though. Our marching band did the music of Queen this year. Our shows are especially written and customized for our band. Sorry for the Football game show but our DVD's haven't come in.

Do you guys go to any major competitions? My highschool band usually places anywhere from 11th to 7th at state finals, but we don't go to any major national or regional competitions. Mostly because the biggest and best bands from my state have around 200 - 250 kids in them and they score in the top 6 at Bands of America Grand Nationals. It's almost impossible for my highschool band to compete at their levels, it's like DCI highschool.
who cares
who cares
i'm a band nerde, i geek out over pointless band shit like that. It's dumb but watever
those snares are godly [editline]20th January 2011[/editline] once I'm able I'll tryout for one of the corps, I love drums
That rifle feature was godly. Skip to about 7:40
Fuck I have flute and piano. Anyways I'm surprised about how well they can play while moving, especially the tubas. [editline]19th January 2011[/editline] Its like the varsity level of marching bands. I bet they have weight training rooms or something like that. [editline]19th January 2011[/editline] Oh nevermind they have keyboard
I thought I was the only fan. I've performed with the Blue Coats and am trying out for Santa Clara soon.
I got bored watching...
I thought I was the only fan. I've performed with the Blue Coats and am trying out for Santa Clara soon.
I kind of want to try out, but then again, it's expensive to do drum corps (or so I've heard). My friend sees it as paying people money to yell at you and stress you out, but I see it as a cool experience. I've got a friend marching with the Cavvies and another marching for Phantom Regiment this year, so I'm excited to see them march.
I hate that in DCI there are no trombones, you rarely see valve trombone at the best.
The trombone gives too much of a bright sound. It doesn't fit the style of music performed by most corps. If you're being yelled at while giving it your best you need to find a better corps. I have some other videos to show if you don't mind. Mainly Santa Clara stuff, as i feel they have the most musicality. [editline]19th January 2011[/editline]
who cares
The millions of music students around the nation. The 40,000+ people that attended DCI finals last year. The 10,000+ members involved in corps. Most importantly, the billions of people in the world who are inspired by music and the awe inspiring feeling of seeing 300 individuals come together to create something larger than themselves. You can pretend that you don't care about anything and that you're too cool to enjoy anything, but deep down you most likely desire to be a part of something as inspiring as that of Drum Corps. What's sad is you never will.
Go ahead and post other videos if you want, I enjoy watching Corps shows.
That was seriously impressive. I've never watched anything like that before, I'm not a huge marching band person but wow, holy fuck. The amount of coordination involved in a performance like that is amazing, astounding even. Good stuff!

Great video showcasing the razor's-edge perfection and timing of some corps. One of the greatest shows of all time. It was the highest scoring show up until 2002, when the Cavaliers took that title from Santa cLara Vanguard. This show is also special to me because The Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical and is partially responsible for my love of music. Another great warm-up video: If I find or think of other's i'll add them. I wish I could share my 7gb audio folder of shows I've collected over the years with you guys, but I cannot, so youtube will have to suffice.
