Pretty chill review, hope you enjoy.
Giving gifts helps you unlock the character's relationships quicker.
Instead of needing 2 visits to rank up, if you give the right gifts, you'll rank up after 1 visit.
This is helpful since all characters have some sort of ability that you can get once they're max rank.
Nice and short review, it's pretty hard to talk about a Danganronpa game without going into spoilers cause the whole plot is like, half the fun of the game.
I just started and finished this series this year. Whole things a ride, couldn't recommend more.

I loved 1 and adored 2 (I'd rather not talk about Despair Girls) but considering how V3 has [sp]the interesting protagonist getting axed in favor of Boring McBlandypants[/sp] and the fact that I already know the big reveal and how completely fucking stupid it sounds, I'm hesitant to work my way through the story in hopes that it isn't.
I am going through Danganronpa 2 right now, playing the entire series back to back.
- Makoto is a bit too much of a little bitch. It doesn't help that the "scooby squad" is made up of [sp]Byakuya and Kyoko[/sp] and they figure most stuff before you, so you don't feel like you are the main character. They clearly realized this because in D2 the Hajime-[sp]Nagito[/sp]-[sp]Chiaki[/sp] relationship is much more leveled.
- [sp]The alter ego thing at the end is totes a LITERAL deus ex machina[/sp]. I also picked the wrong choice at the end and it felt more like a large FUCK YOU than anything else, it pissed me off. Especially because [sp]said deus ex machina doesn't happen for Kyoko.[/sp]
- On the normal settings the game is fairly easy, I'm playing on max difficulty and no powerups in D2 and it's more enjoyable.
- The cases make sense, mostly. Little to no "try everything with everything". Actually D2 is worse in this regard, I feel, but it could be because of the difficulty. [sp]I would have not figured out the "she filled the swimsuit with gravel and used it as a club" in any difficulty thought, that just does not make any fucking sense.[/sp]
- I wish some characters had more usefulness of character development. [sp]Toko, Hiro, and Aoi do basically nothing but whine.[/sp]

I recommend you pay very close attention to what is said in the ending. It's very easy to misinterpret it and people have done this (see steam reviews); best draw your own conclusions on it.
[sp] The first protagonist being more interesting than the second is a dubious claim, especially if you haven't played the whole game yet [/sp]
I do recommend that you play V3 because the cases and characters are for the most part very good.

Not really. Considering that[sp]Alter Ego is the creation of the ultimate programmer, I would've felt insulted if he'd been taken out that easily. It totally makes sense for Alter Ego to exist within the network as a virus and popping out like that. Granted, it not happening with Kyouko's execution is a bit funky but it's not exactly a huge impact.[/sp]
Also, how do you make the wrong choice there?[sp]Yeah, calling out lies is what you do all game[/sp]but doing so this time relies on you[sp]suddenly distrusting the person who's been the greater driving force of investigations and trials for the entire game and who saved your ass just hours earlier.[/sp]

[sp]A colorful design (by Danganronpa standards, anyway) and fun, active personality gets replaced by bland-as-paste design and a character who's basically a combination of Kyoko and Makoto.[/sp] Forgive me if I'm not particularly excited.

[sp] Understandable, but I don't think it's fair to judge a character whose character development you haven't fully seen. [/sp]

I trusted [sp]Kyoko[/sp] 100%, I simply didn't think it was worth killing everybody else to save her.

[sp]You're still dealing with wasted potential. When your previous protagonists share the same problem of being really generic and not nearly as interesting as the people around them, a stunt like this is only made worse. What's that? You kinda like this new protagonist after the first two were often called bland and boring, both in terms of design and personality? Fuck you, we're killing her. Here's another bland protagonist instead.[/sp]
I just finished this entire series. I liked getting attached to characters and losing them all in horrible ways afterwards.
It seems V3's plot twist is a bit dividing, but I think it's amazing. [sp]Making me feel guilty for wanting another entry after this, eh game developers? Smart move. It's important to avoid end spoilers on this, because with the type of twist we are dealing with, you will be unable to enjoy the game in the same way.[/sp]
With regards to V3, [sp] killing of Kaede was the most Danganronpa thing. She was too inline with the other protagonists of just spewing hope everywhere and being overly hopeful, Kodaka had to invert your expectations.[/sp]
