When he said the purpose of Curiosity it clicked in my head. It was just a big server test, to see if the system works.
Or he could just be making that up he is Peter :v:

Looks much better than when I last seen it. Nice potential, Molyneux!
I sense a lot of Molyneux Promises.
Jeez, steam popups.
I love this so much. I like what he mentioned about griefers or trolls. People who put so much time into a village will be hesitant to throw it all away.
The game looks ok, but is it just me or does Molyneux always seem quite spacey, and to be fascinated with game mechanics that seem rather basic, or on occasion unintuitive or crappy? (And yes I know its in super early stages, but I'm speaking in regards to stuff such as his explanation as to why we have to click each bubble of faith which was rather poor.)
im REALLY loving the simplified culture merging thing through visual looks and shit like that
molyneux has never disappointed me, ill def pick this up

But that's the brilliance of it, all these really basic things can come together to make something that's really just a masterpiece.
To everyone worried about the game and Molyneux, you gotta understand sure he promised a lot with fable and whatnot, but both Black and White and Dungeon Keeper are considered some of the greatest games ever made.
He's got a fantastic grip on what makes these kinds of games fun and easy to get into, but also deep and engaging.
He's arguably one of my favorite developers just from his personality

While I can't deny he has passion, he is also really good at making something mediocre sound godlike.
Fleetwood Mac's "Little Lies" popped into my head as soon as he talked about features that are to be implemented.
But I want to believe. I want to believe in Peter Molyneux. He is just so optimistic and ambitious and cheery. It's just so heartwarming to see a game dev as passionate about games as Peter is.
I won't say I have high hopes for the game, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on it, and see what comes of it.
Color me interested
Can't wait till it gets on Steam Early Access, kinda wishing I'd helped kickstart it now.

His comment about how people would join forces against griefers and trolls makes me imagine that eventually everyone would start joining forces and start battling out against rivalling groups.
Something like 4chan vs Reddit.
Sounds cool as fuck

I doubt he's straight up lying about it
What you have to remember when any developer talks about things they want to implement is that they're talking about something that needs to be designed, produced, tested and iterated. A lot of times something that sounds great in their head and even on paper simply won't work in a real world gameplay environment.
When something doesn't make it in that said they were planning in prior interviews it's generally not because they couldn't be bothered to give it a shot - it's because it didn't work out
While I can't deny he has passion, he is also really good at making something mediocre sound godlike.
Maybe the little features are mediocre, but it really does look like all those little things add up to make something great.
Also I guess he was right about Curiosity, something really big DID come from it
I mean it's not easy to say you can flex that kind of server power
When the game is finally finished it may be discovered that he may have seemed to embellished a little, but it's all about features that need to be cut for various reasons, I have no doubt a lot of the things he's discussing in this video won't be in the final games purely because of the networking aspects of such a large world.
Not pessimistic, I think it looks fantastic so far, I'm just not gonna get too hyped about another Molyneux game (At least until Black and White 3, fingers crossed twice)
EDIT: Also, I'm particularily surprised on how he seems to sort of appreciate the single-player aspect of it, I'll be pretty excited for this if offline mode is still just as grand. I can't wait to see what cloud-computing can possibly do for this game, but it seems like a really sweet game to play offline with randomly-generated worlds of your own to avoid getting board with your homeworld/online world. I'm interested to see how the plotting of land on this big map will work, and moreso what happens if a player's territory is compeltely taken over (If possible). It'd be nice to see this develop into a connected world with a lot of dedicated players, I can just imaging how big maps could get if this game becomes popular enough, hopefully the land generation is more continent-based than Minecraft and similar games. The possibilities are endless but again I feel like hyping it is only going to bring disappointment, I know Molyneux is capable of making something great and this could be it, in any case I'm extremely excited for this game and even moreso that Molyneux is pursuing the god genre again.
Don't forget that Peter Molyneux is a liar and most of the features will be removed in the final release.

I thought that meant the beta starts for backers but do you mean it will be up for early access purchase?

Just watched the whole video. Sounds fantastic.
sounds quite ambitious to say the least. I really hope they don't fuck it up.
I like listening to Molyneux talk just a little bit too much.
Facepunch global domination, anyone?

I could easily imagine a Goonswarm-style invasion of everything organised by SA or /V/.

gamers always want a game with a lot of passion and effort put into it. molyneux does that, but he never can pull it off because of technical limitations, budget problems, time restraints, etc. he clearly has a ton of passion for his games, for fuck's sake he's even cried during an interview when he said his games never end up the way he wanted them to. he's what this industry needs; an optimistic man who cares about games.
give him a break.
[editline]1st September 2013[/editline]
wait nope lol he's A LIAR! nevermind his passion and shit, all that matters is that he's a LIAAAAR

He kind of proved that 22Cans (his company) can host a massive multiplayer game like this with Curiosity.
He really has gotten my attention with this game, mostly for the technical aspect of it.
