Might as well watch because hell if I'm going to play it.
I'm upsset that NONE of the Dopefish crew has even started playing the game.
Part 4 is up now. :)
It bothers me this game doesn't have surround sound.
It bothers me this game doesn't have surround sound.
Check the PCGaminig Wiki site, you can enable it with a new version of the OpenAL dll
Part 4 is up now. :)
Right on. I'll update the OP. How you likin' the game so far by the way? I've never much been one for horror games, so it's super spooky, but lots of people say it's not as good as the first amnesia.

I wish I read nothing about the game before playing. Hearing so many people being disappointed with it caused me to think a certain way when playing.

I enjoyed A Machine For Pigs quite a bit, I thought it was exceptionally well done, but I also understand the complaints about it. Compared to the original, it has a much slower start, and the original was already slow enough. I recall lots of people giving up on the first game (and the videos of the first game!) because it seemed like nothing was going to happen. People got bored of the creak here and the thump there. They wanted monsters. The new game has an even longer intro with more creaks and louder thumps, which means the monsters are even further off. The tiny glimpses of something far off retreating aren't enough to keep everyone engaged in what's going on. The first game also read aloud Daniel's Diary notes, which was great. Reading the notes myself isn't a problem, but hearing the character read their own words was nice. I've seen a few posts from people upset that the insanity stuff is gone. From what I recall it didn't actually do much, just a few visual effects really, but it seems that people recall it fondly. I don't mind it being absent. So, I guess I'm in the minority, having enjoyed the game and without feeling that it had to "live up" to it's predecessor. It's different, yes, but I don't think it's worse. I mean, if we're going to compare things, Penumbra Overture was better than Amnesia The Dark Descent...
The biggest problem for me when I played it was the fact that nobody reads the notes to me like some loving father drenched in blood tucking his daughter in for the night, reading bedtime stories, like in the original. [editline]12th September 2013[/editline] also, no boss penis 0/10
I'm actually glad the insanity meter is gone in this version. Jelly vision and that "My skull is collapsing in itself" noise constantly looping really annoyed me. Love your vids btw hamst3r.

That's one thing I'm glad they removed.
Part 5's up now.
I watched your first part, but as soon as you went into the [sp]hidden room behind the bear[/sp], I just had to stop watching. I had been playing it for a while, but I hadn't yet found that area, and this time around, I'm gonna complete the game BEFORE watching your playthrough, not the other way around as I did with the first Amnesia game. Not that my own playthough of the first Amnesia game got any less scary from knowing the entire game. The atmosphere is really what gets me in all of these games.
What a delightfully fucked up game. Although the ending is all kinds of ambiguous.
That build up to the ending was pretty damn spooky.
Holy shit that scene, [sp]The Manpigs invading London.[/sp]
I can't ever make it through these games. At first I'm really spooked out but then I get bored once I get over the fear.
Also, is it just me or [sp]the Machine made me think of a 19th century Aperture Laboratories, somewhat. Huge underground complex with a thinking machine suspended in a large chasm at its center, with all the workers gone.[/sp]
I like how it took you 7 parts to finish the game while other LPers are making short-ass 10 minutes long videos on purpose to hoard all the money. Like I just checked on Pewdiepie's channel to see what the shitty LPers do with the game and he's at 4 parts now, with parts being 13 fucking minutes long.

Sure it's more content overall, but lots of times people simply won't watch something longer. Hamst3r's content is consistently long so I think he has a lot of viewers who are ok with it. A lot of mine aren't. 10minutes is still one of the best video lengths since it's low commitment for a viewer. They want to follow the game, but don't necessarily want to or need to stay through the whole thing.
I like the two best friends model of having 30 minutes long parts for their playthroughs (sometimes up to 45 minutes or an hour) and having much shorter videos at around 10 to 15 minutes for just compilations that cut off the bullshit and go to the funny bits (which is what they do on Machinima) I think 15 minutes is a bit short for LPs but considering a lot of people have the attention span of a fish I understand cutting videos shorter. Depends on the rate at which you upload videos too I guess, I don't see the point in cutting videos shorter if you're going to release an hour or so worth of content every day anyway.

There are certainly other possible factors, but every single other short LP series was significantly more viewed. Only exception was SimCity, which was 30-40minutes and got 300 hits on average. I personally prefer watching longer videos too. I leave it on a playlist and set it off to the side while I work on something else. But like I said, sometimes you just have to play your hand with things. Not saying PDP or other big timers are playing their hand, but just my side of things.
Your original Let's Play of Amnesia was one of the few series I've ever watched all the way through on youtube. That's probably the gayest award to ever be given to someone but hey don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Will probably watch this too. [editline]14th September 2013[/editline] Not gonna lie though, the facecam is a definite turnoff
I love you hamst3r!!!
