Today is Halo 3's 10th Anniversary. Nothing will ever measure up to the hype and love for this game.
I had 4 friends come over with two 360s and we LAN the whole game on Legendary at midnight. It was so much fun and i had a screen shot of the end game as my wallpaper for so long. I can say this 100% achievements for this game is one of my proudest gaming moments.
Good times..
back when they wanted to make people happy with the game when it released
Halo 3 was truly something special not just for the franchise, but for the 360 and the entire gaming scene of the time. It's really a shame we haven't seen a year in gaming quite like '07 since.
It's kinda funny how back in the day, Halo was usually seen as the "dumb dude bro fps" that "ruined" shooters by popularizing regenerating health and only being able to hold two weapons at a time. But nowadays, the first 3 games are seen as really well designed classics. Halo 3 and Runescape were my first online gaming experiences.

I don't remember feeling the hype AND satisfaction from games today as I did back in like the '04-'09 range, satisfaction specifically. I remember getting hyped for Fo4 then when I played it was mostly underwhelmed and a little bored but when Halo 3 came out, good lord, I was blown away with everything. Its like things come out now and I'm either disinterested or at best pleasantly surprised.
I think the only way we'll ever get another game as hyped as Halo 3 is if Half Life 3 actually gets announced and has an amazing trailer just because of how big of a deal it would be
Seeing people make machinima videos in halo 3 is what got me into the medium. I have more hours in forge mode then multiplayer and campaign. Videos I made back then are still on youtube, back when I couldn't write dialogue for shit :v:

The opening to Destiny 2 really showed that Bungie is still capable of doing something as amazing as this. Such a shame that the rest of the story was kinda whatever.
This is seriously one of my favorite video game trailers of all time. I miss Halo. [editline]25th September 2017[/editline] The way this scene happens in the trailer is so much better than the actual cutscene.

This was a good one too.
I can't see myself getting as hyped for another game in any series as I did for halo 3 unless the industry gets turned on its head. Too jaded from shit releases, formulaic developers and gameplay, massive let downs, sales gimmicks like the late 3D and VR, etc. ...but mostly, its probably because that sense of childhood wonder is more or less gone, I reckon. :v:

Having an entire block reserved just for a fucking videogame that wasnt even super mario? I've only ever heard of blocks being blocked out for traffic in newyork for either a crane fucking falling off the skyscrapers or the macy's parade. It was really a legendary thing, they brought out actual mongooses and warthogs and everything. It was all over the news too.
back when they wanted to make people happy with the game when it released
If by happy you mean 99% of resources given to multiplayer, then yes.
well designed
well implemented and better designed than 2's sharply swinging weapon tiers and stop levels like throne room yes, well designed, no. The SP is a cobbled together half finished chopped up mess, difference being it has a muh nostalgia ending instead of an abrupt black screen ending. MP is far more robust and balanced than 2, but also suffered hyper grinditis for unlocks and progression. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
I distinctly remember the game case smelling an awful lot like glue when I first opened it in the car going back from the store 10 years ago. Opening it now and feeling the same smell hit my nose (albeit a bit faint) is insane. I'm imagining myself going back to the best gaming year of my life.
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
Damn, way to pull that card for an innocent statement for a game people liked simply because they liked the game. Nostalgia doesn't really have to influence my opinion that Jet Set Radio and Jak & daxter are my favorites and I'll still holdfast to my opinion that they're games that was made to make people happy too.
This was a good one too. video
Marty back in late January uploaded the original to youtube and apparently it was titled "kids"
I remember when this trailer popped up, a group of kids were watching it in an art class and they had no idea it wasn't real time. This one was saying "LOOK AT HOW GOOD CHIEF LOOKS, DUDE HALO 3 GRAPHICS WILL BE THE MOST REALISTIC EVER, THE VISOR HAS REAL REFLECTIONS"
marketing for this game was on point
It's crazy that games these days don't look all that much better than that trailer
Didn't play the game much but this trailer always gave me goosebumps.
I personally prefer the Halo 3 ODST trailer. To be honest I prefer that whole game over the others. The whole atmosphere and sound design alone made it better than 3. Your character felt more of a detective than a super-soldier.
ODST is the Majora's Mask of the Halo franchise.
ODST was fun but I can't say anything will ever top Halo 3, in the Halo universe. It was truly the best end to a Trilogy you could ask for.
Halo 3 was the GOLDEN AGE of machinima

Are there any modern games that have similar unlocks, or is everything bought through microtransactions now?
