>>>SORRY. Can't embed. :(<<< In a nutshell, [sp]The BBC wander around low income neighborhoods trying to talk to residents who decided not to take a government paid trip somewhere else for the G20 but nobody wants to talk and there's spooks from the Communist Party stalking them. They try to talk to one guy and they just tell him to go back inside and not talk and tell the beeb to fuck off and call the cops. After the cops show up and the beeb show they have all their press credentials in order they are released and told do not talk to anyone.[/sp] It just seems so....IT just doesn't seem right.
China is so lowkey scary. It has a front-facing appearance as this happy free republic with big modern cities and all the faculties of normal civilized life, and then there's impoverished districts where party officials shoo you into your homes so you don't talk to the press.
Hangzhou is a beautiful city that doesn't suffer from visibility of the poor as much as tier 1 cities or other smaller towns in city metros. It seems like an unnecessary measure, either they're splitting hairs or dickwagging their power amongst their people. It's worth the 2 hour drive to visit if you ever find yourself in Shanghai.
Will China ever become a democratic nation?
Big meetings like this are interesting. I remember my dad and I went to the midnight launch for Halo 3 and bought the Legendary Edition, and we were stopped by police on the way back to car as we had just walked up to a building full of politicians carrying a massive box. I can understand why they were suspicious.
