Actually, it's the same cartoon, they just dubbed it and gave it a new intro sequence. Like they apparently always do.
And if JAM Project is typical anime music to you, you have been watching very, very awesome anime.
(Transformers is actually ridiculously popular in Japan, there's been a couple series made specifically for them that we haven't gotten taking place after G1. Headmasters, Victory, and Zone are all direct sequels to it.
They've been fucking up Animated other than the new opening, though, by trying to make it a prequel to the Michael Bay movies.)

...you do realize that the only Transformers shows that can't be called shitty are Beast Wars and Robots in Disguise, right? And the G1 movie, which is also pretty awesome.
