I'm not sure what to think. Even Halo 4 had a sorta-tutorial before throwing players in deep, but if this really is how the game begins, they don't even bother this time and just throw you straight into Covenant and Promethean battles without even time to learn the new mechanics. [editline]15th October 2015[/editline] wait what the fuck, are those promethean knights because they definitely aren't the same designs and they're speaking english now, everyone's just calling them forerunner soldiers

Here is the same mission but on legendary difficulty http://ca.ign.com/videos/2015/10/16/halo-5s-first-mission-on-legendary-difficulty-ign-plays-live And here is mission 2 http://ca.ign.com/videos/2015/10/15/halo-5-guardians-mission-2-blue-team-in-1080p-60fp
Not every game has to hold your hand and explain every little thing to you.
Even still, it's a tradition to start relatively basic and then work up in encounter sizes, or at least have a 'look at this thing' for the sake of getting the player used to the sight speeds or inverting their y-axis. [editline]15th October 2015[/editline] It's not necessarily a bad thing to start off action-packed with intense battles and all, but it's jarring for the very first mission of the game to me for some reason
Truthfully I can see why this would turn off purists, but at the same time it seems like a breath of fresh air. To me this doesn't seem any more or less hectic than the fight to defend the Cairo in Halo 2. Granted, it is for lack of a better term, epic, and on a bigger scale, but we've only seen these few missions so far. For all we know the first Blue Team mission could be a slow paced Truth and Reconciliation styled mission.
I think one of the missions they're allowed to show before launch is later into the game. IGN or Gamespot said they will be allowed to show the 8th mission.

Why does meleeing put you into third person for a second?
Why does meleeing put you into third person for a second?
It's the Shoulder Bash, or shoulder charge or whatever it's called. Rather than a simple melee, you rush forwards and slam whatever's in your way, out of the way in a brief burst of speed.
Why does meleeing put you into third person for a second?
it's been like this since reach, if you hold the melee button you'll do a fancy execution instead of just a simple punch. Takes more time/makes you vulnerable but it's always fun to flat out dunk people in pvp [editline]e[/editline] or it was that fancy new shoulder charge attack, yeah
Why does meleeing put you into third person for a second?
it's the sprinting melee attack, if you sprint + Melee, it will do a rocket slam.
man I get why people dont like the spartan 4's, but i think they've got their place and are pretty badass. Master Chief was just so fucking cool because he was a kind of careless badass, he never really talked tactically or even like shows effort in halo, he just does what he wants. fuck even when he's grabbed by gravemind they just banter with him. [editline]16th October 2015[/editline] man spartans no matter what the version (except 3's [aside from noble team]) are all pretty kickass.

Aside from Thorne, Majestic were just really shitty examples though. Even for regular soldiers, they were pathetic.
Maybe whoever is playing has the tutorial tips turned off or he is replaying this mission. Fucks sake the nitpicking
Maybe whoever is playing has the tutorial tips turned off or he is replaying this mission. Fucks sake the nitpicking
I'm not really trying to bitch or see it as a negative. If I wanted to complain i'd probably find something else to complain about than be befuddled since this is the first 'big thing' of detailed campaign gameplay since E3 besides one small subset of battles in a desert/canyon area.
Why does meleeing put you into third person for a second?
Shoulder bash that they [del]ripped[/del] borrowed from Destiny.
I don't hate it but I can't say with a good heart that it looks or sounds anything like halo w i get they want to do their own thing, so much so that they made their own sounds and stuff, but the needler sounding like that was extremely lame, and the armor looks weirder and weirder the more i see it, it has no definition, you can't even really remember what it looks like other than "kind of like dark samus" because of that it's like changing mario from a plumber to a king or knight of some sort, i mean sure it's the logical conclusion of what he's done for mushroom kingdom but it no longer holds the icon and it's not nostalgia or what ever either because i was bored and just played through all of them again and they haven't lost anything from not having iron sights, tbh it's just totally unnessecary in halo, but now that they've added it they've already built mechanics around it, i already notice the spray getting smaller when he sights in, and the jump wasn't as high either, unless they were going to slam and the addition of revival is kind of just dumb, since you want to see your friends die in stupid ways
To be honest that's a problem almost everyone will agree on. All the weapons in Halo 4 and 5 sound neutered, but especially 5.
The Promethian weapons are as flaccid as ever I see. I hope we aren't stuck using them for70% of the game like we were in Halo 4.
A problem I have relating to the whole "no tutorial" aspect, isn't so much as there isn't a tutorial, but rather that it feels like very bad pacing for the game. You've just started the game and the first thing they do is jump headfirst into the big action set piece rather than having any kind of buildup to it. Escaping the Pillar of Autumn or defending the Cairo were cool moments because of the buildup to them. They started slow and built anticipation for the fights, making them feel more exciting and valuable to your journey. The beginning of this game is almost the polar opposite. The cutscene that precedes the gameplay shows your characters doing much more awesome and exciting things than anything you can do ingame, and once you finally start playing, the action feels so much blander and unexciting than what they'd hyped it up to be.
I watched the first 3 missions, here's my thoughts. -Seems pretty uninspired overall, which is pretty ridiculous coming from the Bungie Halos. -The Grunts and Jackal's voices sound so bad. Grunts sound like fucking Tom Kenny. -I don't know what in the fuck is going on. Were Spartan OPS and that Hunt the Truth thing really that important in understanding this game's basic plot? -I was actually surprised and impressed to see Republic Commando gameplay elements. -Master Chief talks too much and I don't mean his story dialogue, I mean the stuff like "door", "contact", "elevator". -Don't know if this was the recording, but it seemed like a lot of the enemy voices came from the back left. -Buck is the greatest.
-Master Chief talks too much and I don't mean his story dialogue, I mean the stuff like "door", "contact", "elevator".
It's part of the squad stuff. Every character would say this sort of stuff really as part of the new passive speak and orders.
Yeah, but the Chief has always been kinda quiet and he seems a bit depressed as of late. Having only his squadmates talk in place of him would be fine.
I know that is is important for game series to evolve, but it feels like the Halo games have completely forgotten their roots. It really isn't where I was expecting the series to go from the first two (maybe even first three) games. It looks boring, generic and completely uninvolving.
Yeah, but the Chief has always been kinda quiet and he seems a bit depressed as of late. Having only his squadmates talk in place of him would be fine.
He is the team leader, he needs to lead. Blue Team is his original team from the pre-Halo 1 novels. he gave orders quite a bit in them he didn't talk much in the games because he had Cortana with him and was mostly lone wolf. [editline]16th October 2015[/editline] Mission 3 is up on the same YouTube channel
-Buck is the greatest.
I think this is something we can all agree on.
Yeah, but the Chief has always been kinda quiet and he seems a bit depressed as of late. Having only his squadmates talk in place of him would be fine.
nope, chief is the leader of the Spartan II's (unofficially, but they all picked him) and he's fully aware of it and willing to take that role. He's not gonna be dead silent when he has a team of his old friends under his command, that's not how the Chief rolls.
