Sounds like this album is going to be basically Death Magnetic: Part 2. Which is fine, since that album was decent enough.
Sounds better than the other track they released.

More like Death Magnetic: We Found A Proper Producer
Good to hear Hetfield is still churning out killer riffs
that chorus just doesn't sit well with me though
As much as I dig metallica, I just can't get into their newer stuff.
Everything, especially drums, are sounding better than Hardwired.
I'm kind of curious to check out the album when it releases now.

They've reuploaded the video to fix the choppy of the moths in some shots (look at ~1:10 in the video in the OP) and unlisted the one linked in the OP
Now this is more like it! I didn't think the last one was bad, but this one is way better.

That is such a bad album cover like god damn
Excluding the chorus, this isn't bad. I much prefer it over the other track.
This one song is better than the entire St. Anger album.
Is it just me or is there a lot less clipping on this than there was on Hardwired and most of Death Magnetic? It seems they finally realized we have volume sliders and can make it as loud as we want. Sounds much fuller.
Also sounds really good.
in my opinion this is really uninspired. i feel like there's no space for this kind of stuff nowadays. when it comes to oldschool metal i'd much rather dig and listen to old bands. when it comes to contemporary metal, there are bands that innovate and there's no reason to listen to bands that blandly look back at themselves.
there are contemporary bands that kind of manage to do the "oldschool" thing right. just listen to these two:

metallica's just too much of a corporation band to actually pull off the angst and aggressiveness of thrash correctly. it's over for them, and at this point it's just a nostalgia act.
besides, why would you listen to this mediocre crap? go listen to the new stuff that carries the flag.

Perfect way to describe the majority of Metallica pretty much
too much of a corporation band to actually pull off the angst and aggressiveness of thrash correctly.
ironically enough the underground whispers the same of Lost Society, in their home country at least
Wasn't a massive fan of the first one but this one is actually pretty good.

i've sort of heard about that but it was the first thing that popped on my head.
LS seem to have switched to groove metal style lately anyway
but your point stands, new bands do the old school nowadays better than the original old school

You gotta give them kudos for at least trying to be different instead of pretending that they're the same band from '83

honestly can't really call this trying to be different, it's been 8 years since death magnetic but this still sounds the exact same, both musically and production wise (except a bit less compressed)
It still sounds as formulaic as the last song.
You've got the drums being mixed too loud.
The chugging style verse riffs that end the measure with a bit of notes higher up.
A chorus that sounds like it might be from an entirely different song.
And of course, just have Kirk turn on the wah-wah pedal and do a bit of improv for the solo.
It almost seems to me like they've forgotten how to write thrash metal.
As a side note, it looks like Lars is about to have a heart attack from over excursion at any moment :v:

And the formula works. It sounds great. I've no issue with Metallica following the formula at this point in time.

It sounds generic to me. These could be on Death Magnetic or even Load/Reload and it would fit right it. They were originally about making their own unique sound and helped push thrash metal forward, and now they seem content on making your very run of the mill hard rock or basic metal or whatever you want to call it. It gets boring after awhile.

Ha ha, no

Load and Reload had a very different sound.

And that's bad how? Death Magnetic was great.

IF that means following a formula then by all means follow the formula. It sounds great and, in the end, that's all that matters. Besides, I'm all for anything that'll get the radio to stop fucking looping this two bit garbage band '21 pilots' and their latest turd 'Heathens'. Formulaic, generic Metallica displacing that might as well be handed down from Heaven itself.
