You obviously haven't been keeping track of him very well, every comment he's made about Mario since his Super Mario Galaxy review has been very negative, he even wrote a short article specifically directed toward criticizing Nintendo's recent wave of direct sequels to the Mario games they released over the past few years.
My only guess is that he's eager to tear the game to shreds.
