Yank powergrid operates at 120V, 60Hz and Japanese ones are around that range too.
Most of the world uses 220-240V at either 50 or 60Hz.
Takes forever for them to boil water in a kettle because of it, though it does not forgive microwaving water for it. It's just not on, use the cooker or something instead!
