[hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjb0j9l1sz4[/hd] Pretty damn cool music video, it's what "St. Anger" should have been.
Fucking Danny Trejo is in this, son.
When did Richard Stallman join Slayer?
Haven't listened to the record yet, but this song sounds... okay. Just like I found "Diabolus in Musica", "God Hates Us All", "Christ Illusion" okay too. And this is something I've noticed way before Hanneman died, so in my mind, this is "Slayer", not Slayer.
Sounds like it came off of Reign in Blood. Absolutely kickass
I mean, every time I listen to one of the records I've mentioned, I keep coming back to "South of Heaven" or "Seasons in the Abyss". I dunno man, they just don't sound like they used to, and Hanneman's passing has nothing to do with it.

Nothing really stood out for me though, it's just more Slayer.

ill be honest, the video is kinda shittty

I can't get over how god awful the lyrics are.
ughghguhh I was a huge slayer fan at one point. It just sounds awful now
I can't get over how god awful everything is. Seriously it's just the same shit all over again. Sounds like any local act around the world that tries to copy Reign in Blood, shit's just... Bad.

Bad.
I keep reading reviews about how uninspiring the album is... but I guess at this point they're just on "auto pilot" and beating the same dead horse, probably because they can, and partly because otherwise their fans would hate them if they stopped. Imagine how dense and irritating must be for some big musicians, like Kerry and Tom, to be practically forced to play, compose and try to duplicate something they've created over 30 gawddamn years ago, just because of "commercial relevance", or because of a trend. How annoying it must be for Kerry King, for instance. I bet he could go: "-Look man, you want old school Slayer? Pick up 'Reign in Blood' or 'South of Heaven' and be done with it... why the fuck would I want to make 'Reign in Blood II' or some bullshit like that, out of the emotional attachment my fans have to those old records? Do I *really* have to repeat myself ad nauseam? I already gave it my best shot and you can find it in those albums, this is the best I can do right now, just be glad I'm still around, and that when I play the old stuff live, it melts your fucking face off" If I really think about it, since "Divine Intervention", their stuff has left a rather "meh" taste in my mouth, it's just not the same, but it's not like they should be tied to the same sound if they wanted to - "Haunting the Chapel" was IMO the closest they've ever been to early Black Metal, it'd be great if they were to explore that part again.
Damn they got old.
Video is pretty cool, the music is decent. I really liked their last album though, since I found many of the songs really aggressive.
I saw Slayer last year and it was good show. Although they played over time and made the next band play short.
The lyrics are terrible and the music sounds like a Slayer cover band. Gross. At least it isn't nu-metal, I guess. It's definitely not going to be the worst album they've made and it definitely sounds better than anything I heard on World Painted Blood.
Meh, it's ok I guess. I miss Reign In Blood -slayer. :frown:
Its more of the "world painted blood"-ish sound, but really, this feels watered down to me. The riffs work I guess but the rhythm is really repetitive. They have drive alright, but its just this pumping straight forward drive that lacks some variations, at the very least some more half-time, a proper breakdown, anything to break the pattern up a little. Percussion really works as always, not really much to say there, its more the song structure that bothers me more than any individual instrument. As far as lyrics go, I never really cared for slayers lyrics as far as considering them 'good'. It's more about them being 'fun' for me. How much random satanic, anarchy and death references you can possibly fit into a single song or how outrageous they get. This just felt sort of generic, going through the motions. Downfall of society, check! Anarchy and death, check! Frustration with life in general, check! Just nothing there that I find particularly memorable. In God hates us all, I found the lyrics delightfully cathartic and well punctuated and just generally fun for example. Overall, this really feels like an album filler, not a Hell Awaits, Angel of death or Seasons in the Abyss. But I guess you could say 'Well what do you expect, that's OLD Slayer, their sound has evolved since then' and maybe that's what bothers me the most. Maybe new Slayer is just not for me. I've had a hard time getting into World Painted Blood and I'd still rather listen to other records if given the choice. This feels like more of World Painted Blood, butr with more focus on the aspects I didn't really like. But then again, I don't think Slayer really want to pull out a new masterpiece song so late in their musical career. It kind of feels like the whole band just wants to keep doing what they do, maybe experiment a little, have their sound evolve and that's fine! Slayer have made enough kickass records in their time and they can carry on whatever way they choose with their music, but I am slowly losing touch with what they are doing as of late. Again, that's not a bad thing for me. They made a ton of great songs for me to listen to and now they can do whatever makes them happy, I'd still rather listen to their previous records
Cue Right Wing Christian Nutjobs in 3...2...1... Anyway, everything Slayer's done since '94 has been uninspired garbage. They seem more focused on pushing a super-edgy persona than on actually making a good thrash record.
I actually really liked World Painted Blood for its sheer aggressiveness.
