So the DS prototypes could survive being dropped 10 times from 1.5 metres onto concrete but when my first DS fell from my trouser pocket onto concrete it just snapped in two? man that's bullshit I miss my bulky DS. :(
The R4 cartridge can be bought everywhere and there a lot of clones of the cartridges. Its pretty much a SD Card adapter. The hacked cartridges are limited and some cannot accept more then 4gb storage, i think thats just a marketing thing since there are different versions of it. I think buying cheap sd cards would be the answer.
Yeah mine fell from my bed and the hinge broke. It still works but the two halves are only connected by wires so it's flimsy as fuck.
Now if only they had put more effort into reinforcing the L and R buttons on the DSi.
Damn the narrator's voice is annoying.

The original bulky DS was so strong. It's weird how the design became lighter and more fragile like how the Gameboy became the Game Boy Color.
The DS Lite was my favorite by a long shot. I never wanted to get the DSi because of how small and compact the Lite was. Its only problem was the hinge, which would break after a lot of use. I tried repairing it myself but putting in a new case, but I messed up at the end and broke the power button. So I had to buy a new one. That experience made me hate working with microelectronics. And the R4 was a very important part of the DS. People who say piracy doesn't hurt developers should learn about the R4. Piracy became such a rampant issue that it became illegal to sell it in Japan.
the top screen of my DS finally broke this year, after having it from launch. It's the first time I've had some nintendo hardware break on me.

I've never owned a DS would it be worth it to get pick up an original or should I just get a 2ds at some point
I've never owned a DS would it be worth it to get pick up an original or should I just get a 2ds at some point
The only advantage the older DS's have over the 2/3DS is the ability to play GBA games natively (and that was removed with the DSi). If all you want is DS capabilities, get a 2/3DS.
They didn't mention the money printing feature

Thanks.
I assume it was removed to make room for a SD card slot. The actual hardware is still there, since the GBA processor is a coprocessor in DS games. Just no slot so you could.

The DSi and onward phased out the GBA slot.
I've had my DS Lite since near launch, one of the shoulder buttons is wonky and sometimes craps out and the calibration on the bottom screen is way off and can't be fixed (it works just fine, but if I had a minigame where very close accuracy is a problem then it'd become a huge problem). Pretty surprising, considering my dog used it as a chew toy one day while I was at school.
i've never had a ds survive, at all, they all usually break. 1st ds (original), speakers died, touch screen died (my fault), and fuse blew, lasted me a good few years though with a lot of us. 2nd ds (lite), both screens had lines in them, and fuse blew. didnt use it as much as my original ds, didnt like the feel of it 3rd ds (lite), broken touch screen pad thingy, lines on top screen and thats how i got it, i got it for free from a friend, he found it in one of his chairs, along with another ds lite. its also a shame i broke my first ds, i loved that thing, plus it was like, a near launch system, got it for my 6th birthday also most of my games that i had with them was either misplaced or stolen, i have no idea only games to survive was urbz, rayman ds (i dont remember, i think it was the case i still had), and warioware touched gave urbz to a friend around 3ds launch, no idea about rayman ds, and i still have warioware touched, spite being in really bad shape.
I was the only one of my friends who has a gen 1 ds instead of a lite, and it was the only one without and kind of damage to any of the important shit. It broke last year when the hinge snapped and the power button stopped working, but it held up nicely. Now I'm stuck finishing up the Phoenix Wright series on my friend's DSlite with an R4 and non-functioning L and R buttons.

shit i never got one of those. i had a psp instead

The same thing happened with the PS2 and PS1, at least in this country. Nowadays I still see kids with new DSs and almost nobody with the 3DS for that very reason. Moreover, the claim that R4s decreased console sales doesn't make sense, game sales I'd understand, but you still need the console to use it. It's not like you can multiply DSs with it.
