Not sure if this was posted before, but I had a look and couldn't find anything. Anywho, thought this was interesting

"Good."
interesting stuff tbh
it was nice hearing the voice actor laugh at one of the portal 2 style jokes, having not read the script beforehand
the aperture science pocket universe cabinet line is awesome.
God, I have a new respect for voice actors. Repeating the same lines that many times for so many hours a day sounds like complete hell on your throat.
It's interesting that they speed up his lines for the final game
Please press the button on your fucking multi-tool.
I'd loose my shit if I were him.
I'm confused, my SteamVR test was just the very beginning of the video and no audio.
I keep hearing "multitools" in my head. Must be pretty fun for the guys doing these. Id imagine the voice actor keeps his character on for a while, pretty tough job. I imagined it would be cool to be voice actor.

That's what it's supposed to be. But in usual Valve fashion, the actual game files contain a shitload of unused content.
Hold the fucking phone.
You can fucking pick up Wheatley in one of those test chambers?!
Oh yeah and I'd like to know what this AB and ABC stuff is that Wolpaw is saying to the voice actor.
good

AB and ABC are them telling him to say the same lines in different ways. AB being two different ways and ABC being three and so on.
It gives valve a variety to choose from to find what fits best.
It is really strange. Hearing a joke, laughing at it, then hearing the directions and laughing again when they retell it by tweaking the humour, like the [sp]irradiated[/sp]

It's pretty amazing the amount of work they put into such simple, ambient voice acting. Really gives you an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into Portal 2, it really was an amazing product.

Especially since a large chunk of it goes unused.

They certainly are known for being picky about voice acting, but delivery and tone are especially important for Portal's humor. I'm sure the words themselves are funny, but think about how he told him to say the line about the "pocket universe cabinet" like it was no big deal. Everything is basically like "the facility will self destruct in ten seconds. Have a nice day."
I wouldn't even chalk it up to Valve specifically. Any time something has VA dialogue that's good- it probably has direction just like that.
Most VA work that's worth it's salt is pretty much exactly like that. Redoing lines 20 times just because you didn't hit one letter right.
I have a few friends who do freelance VA work for various smaller companies, for things like commercials and such.
Having spoken with them a few times, I can definitely say that voice-acting is a lot more than just saying lines into a microphone, and it can be absolutely exhausting. Especially when you have really indecisive or controlling (or unappreciative) directors.
Luckily, these guys at Valve are pretty good to work with, and are incredibly respectful to their voice actor. These are the directors that voice actors aspire to work with.

And those verbose Aperture Science object names probably aren't helping either.
Just imagine how many times Ellen McLain had to say "1500 MEGAWATT APERTURE SCIENCE HEAVY DUTY SUPER-COLLIDING SUPER BUTTON”.
I wouldn't mind a full puzzle game of that little robot repair segment.
part 2 is out, didn't wanna make a new thread.

That background video really makes me nostalgic for the days of fuckoff huge custom Portal maps.
Portal (2) was a fucking amazing game. Really unique in a lot of ways.
This is so entertaining, and in a way it's actually quite relaxing

I often forget how good Portal 2 was. It's really been overshadowed by the idiots spewing memes to the point where I kind of just tune out the entire game. It was a fucking excellent game, though. Even the soundtrack is masterful.
It's really interesting seeing how voice acting is done and directed and i'm glad valve accidentally allowed these files to be "leaked"
