I wasn't aware that Android phones dominated the market so much. It seems that everyone has an iPhone.
Of course Android has the most sales. iPhone doesn't have a budget friendly build. You can get premium android phones similar to the iPhone in price or even a cheap android phone. There is a shit ton of possibilities. iPhones are really only meant for people with money.

a lot of people have iphones. however android is on so many devices that if you don't have an iphone you're probably running android.

Maybe in America. Keep in mind that Android is incredibly scalable so tons of smartphones in poorer nations are Android, where iOS wouldn't even be considered.
Now I understand why there are no apps for my Windows phone.

It sucks, right? If anything, I wish there would be a steam guard app for it, but everything on the store looks shady as fuck
Android master race.
Wow. I always thought it was 50/50 between iOS and Android. This is news to me.
keep in mind this is global, not just america (or other first world countries)
you may see lots of iphones, but thats because you live in a wealthy nation.
Sad to see Windows Phone slowly be pushed back.
Also note how you can see iOS breathing in and then back out for each new iPhone release from 2011 onward in Q4 and Q1 of the following year, 2011 for the 4S, 2012 for the 5, 2013 for the 5S & 5C, and 2016 for the 6(+). Q4 '15 isn't included yet but in a future version you'd see something similar for the 6S(+).

Windows Phone is only going to grow in the years to come, cross platform ability with W10 and the fact they've expanded their production lines to no longer just be mostly Nokia produced devices, is going to make it viable. Nokia is no longer the main Windows Phone producer (mostly because they bought it) but they've released all the device development specifications allowing anyone else to make a WP device. Its going to grow but just not going be anything on the scale of Android due to how flexible Android is.
Something to also add, WP8 originally had a large release push but then Huawei dropped their production for it in favour for Android devices, that's one of the main reasons you saw it decrease so fast. Also I can say that likely 40% of the Android market hold is from 2.3~3.2, not the newer Android versions.
While WP currently holds a small amount of the market, WP is still viable and will be as it continues. Specially if Google keeps fucking around with every Android release for their phones, it's annoying a lot of people.

If the rumors about a x86 WP in development turn out to be true, that'll make Microsoft a proper player.

If the store had proper apps, it would be up to par with android and ios
Get rekt Symbian.

Keep in mind, that one of the reason for the huge spread of iphone in the US are big subsidies. Another thing to keep in mind - iphones are uniform so you start picking up recognition much more often. Remember that iphones to a lot of americans are 100USD devices, potentially even cheaper. To a lot of the world they're 800+USD devices.
Android devices are varied, so it doesn't hit so often. Same thing with WP - because the UI is so distinct from afar, one tends to pick them out visually more often.

I know I'm sounding like a broken record already, but it really depends on where you live.
alongside living in a wealthy country, i think the reason i think iphones hold more market share would be because they're advertised everywhere here in england, i'm 18 and they're trendy for airheads (i've got an iphone anyway because 8==D), people with iphones are more likely to whip them out and show off their phone in comparison to somebody rocking a £30 android that they just got to tide them over
not to say that either OS is better, it's down to what you prefer personally but i think that's why apple is seen as a bigger smartphone fish than it really is
Hey you see that one pixel wide pink Windows Mobile line at the end of 2013?
That's me
