I don't know if I'd say large numbers booed him. It sounds like only a handful of people are booing him, they're just being extremely obnoxious about it.
Notice how the people who don't like Trump politely and calmly clap for a normal amount of time when he says he won't support him, but the Trump supporters just will not stop screaming and booing, and when he doesn't react, they just scream and boo even louder because they can't stand the idea that people aren't paying attention to them.
