Ok, I am stumped. My freind gets a CTD on almost every game. No matter the game it is always during a load. Battlefield2/2142 will load map all the way then crash. Portal/TF2 will get to the main menu and crash (while L4D and Gmod still work fine).
No error message is given, it just instantly goes to desktop.

I've checked temps and everything is fine there. Any ideas?
He installed XP on the second Harddrive and everything works on xp, but restarting the comp and switching back and forth is annoying.

Right click the games, and run them in compatibility mode. Might fix.
ok we just tried running BF2142 in compatibility mode for: Windows Xp (service pack 2) and a new problem showed up. When it is set to run in XP mode it won't read the disc, it thinks the drive is empty.

I've suggested just reinstalling windows because this is getting frustrating BUT that would be the last resort so if you have any other ideas
I don't know all the compatibility options for a 64bit, but try just for Vista32bit.
