why is this late, why is this dumb?
Why did he take the pad apart? I thought he was gonna do something interesting but he just seemingly looked at production date?

In a nutshell there a couple of logic chips (74HC14 & 4066) which are probably responsible for debouncing the pushbuttons. The top three (four?) most chips are Op Amps which are probably used to buffer/scale the voltage coming from the resistive touch pad to be sent to the Pot X & Pot Y inputs.
