If it's not immediately obvious to everyone, it's not an 'ancient' 'pirate' cannon. It's something they built in a workshop.
I love its sound of impact.
It's not really a pirate cannon, it's a breech loader from the turn of the 19th-20th century, from the looks of it. I would assume an Ottoman or British piece from WWI, explaining its existence in Syria.•
Can you guys stop killing my boner right now to be a pirate. Also, this is like that South Park episode where they go to Somalia to be a pirate. I guess I am off to Syria guys!
the second shot just after 30 seconds was cool, looks like you can see the projectile bounce straight up into the air after it hit
Whatever that cannon is, it's pretty powerful.
what are they saying before they fire the cannon?
what are they saying before they fire the cannon?
Probably in Syrian: "Ah-yo-ho-ho! GOD IS GREAT!"
Hey, as long as it works
Probably in Syrian: "Ah-yo-ho-ho! GOD IS GREAT!"
Good 'ol God, telling us to blow shit up again. Isn't he just the greatest?
It looks pretty cool.
I like how you can just see traffic in the background going by like business as usual ass this complex or whatever it is being shelled by an (allegedly) 19th century cannon.
Holy shit, you can see the 2nd ball bouncing off into the air. I thought they were exploding, that's just the energy of the collision doing all that. Slightly off-topic: It always irks me how people refer to arms from the 18th century as "pirate weapons", sure, pirates may have used them, so did the rest of the world. It's like calling the AK-47 the "Vietcong gun".

Just like in Civ.
Just like in Civ.
They forgot to upgrade their units.
what are they saying before they fire the cannon?
They say "Yalla, bismillah, Allahuakbar" which basically means "Come on let's go [yalla], in God's name (which basically translates to a good luck, I hope this works) [bismillah], God is great [Allahuakbar]" Bismillah has so many different contexts, in this context they're using it like a good luck, or "may everything turn out alright".
It's so weird to me that they are shelling a building with an active freeway right behind it, with cars casually just going past it as it explodes.
when are they going to use trebuchets
Just like in Civ.
I'll believe that when, I see in the news helicopter downed by archers.
when are they going to use trebuchets
They certainly are superior. They can fling a 90kg projectile 300m you know?
Wouldn't a non-exploding cannonball be pretty useless against armored vehicles like tanks? It might rattle the tank, but I don't think it'll go through. Although, it probably depends on where it hits. Either way, it's pretty funny seeing something like this being used today.

Round shot might be able to damage an IMV or something though. Also cannons are so damn nondescript, it's really difficult to track down specific models or information about them.

that poor truck
that poor truck
Are you kidding, that is probably the happiest day of his life
that like the thing from battlefield
when are they going to use trebuchets
Well it seems they are firing lighter projectiles at less than 300m, you know. Trebuchets would be overkill.
