Funny how footage that's public domain from an American organization is blocked in America
Funny how footage that's public domain from an American organization is blocked in America
Stupid copyright for stupid times...
I was talking to Benjamin Alvin Drew yesterday and he seemed pretty confused and betrayed that government funding is being directed to private space companies that just have powerpoint presentations and concepts rather than NASA who have solid projects half way developed but no money to finish them.

You may want to consult some less-biased sources; private space companies have working vehicles that are safe, efficient, and cost-effective. SpaceX and Virgin Galactic are two examples that come to mind. SpaceX has working launch platforms that offer an affordable, reliable means to transport cargo into space. They also have their Dragon capsule that will be man-rated. Virgin Galactic is close to starting their space tourism business with surprisingly low per-seat costs; they have even constructed a spaceport for what they see as a potentially huge market.
On the other hand, NASA has been clinging to the grossly inefficient, expensive shuttle program for decades and only recently decided to go back to using rehashes of 60's era space-tech. Their current plan? "Visit an asteroid...but no rush." Even before Obama altered NASA's course, Bush's plan wasn't much better: "well, I guess we could go back to the moon".
The true shame isn't that government funding is going to NASA; what really hurts is hearing of China's and India's plans for space flight. Funding private companies is the best we can do for now.
