looks MUCH better, i'm glad they changed the artstyle still not great by any means, but better than what they had a few months ago
To me those graphics look more like last-gen console graphics, really.
gameplay does look really smooth though, i think they captured it perfectly from the originals
To me those graphics look more like last-gen console graphics, really.
in what way
Before it looked awful but I'd kinda like to try this now.
jesus christ why is everything so rigid
Is it me or do the levels look about as exciting and fun as waking up in the morning?
jesus christ why is everything so rigid
it's what the THPS games were like. maybe not so much for THUG/THUG2 and AW but definitely for THPS 1-4 and i think this game has a pretty similar 'feeling' to those games [editline]9th August 2015[/editline] THUG2 was the best TH game. undebatable the spanish level owned
Before it looked awful but I'd kinda like to try this now.
Same here, although I'm going to wait until I see some level interactivity and quirky side-objectives a'la Pro Skater 3. For me, THAT was what made the game excellent.
See, my problem with the visuals is that it looks like it was designed for a mobile game. I mean look at this for instance. Things I can complain about from this one picture. -Shitty draw distance covered up by fog that looks more like one of those polluting screenshots of China. -The WHOLE area looks to have little/no lighting. The bright as hell skatepark with no change in tone makes it look like the whole thing isn't affected by light at all. -Horrible Gradient on the ramps. They don't even look like they have a texture. -on top of all that, the main theme of this map seems to be brown. Probably the worst color you could go for in a game like this. That's just one map. I've seen ps2 games with better looking levels than this. And this is supposed to be colorful, yet every video of the game has that shitty brown filter over it.

Also this new look is a lot easier on the old eyes. I'm just not seeing any personality in the gameplay and level shown.
Looks really great IMO. Tony Hawk games don't have to look amazing as long as the gameplay is really fun.
jesus christ why is everything so rigid
The series has always been hyper-arcade styled where rigidity is important as it keeps everything deterministic. You know that if you landed a certain combo once, it was always repeatable without you needing to get the exact same circumstances as your character would flail about and hit shit. Skate excelled at making the game more loose and fluid, but they were different types of game aimed at different people.
Lies, THPS4 was the best. Also this new look is a lot easier on the old eyes. I'm just not seeing any personality in the gameplay and level shown.
I can't even remember thps4. Just 1 and 2. Thug 2 was my life though. So much stuff to do, great artstyle, great levels, awesome customization, everything I've ever wanted in a tony hawks game.
It looks better than that last gameplay video they released. It looks faster and less sluggish. I'm really afraid they'll rehash most of the levels. I know we love the classic warehouse and school levels, but It's a new game in the series. It should have original maps.
i spent so much time in THUG2. american wasteland felt like a downgrade
I can't even remember thps4. Just 1 and 2. Thug 2 was my life though. So much stuff to do, great artstyle, great levels, awesome customization, everything I've ever wanted in a tony hawks game.
i loved thug2 because all the exploits in the maps made the game so much fun. i'll never forget the feeling when i went into a map, saw a player in a seemingly unreachable location, and typed in chat "woah, how?" and then soon i'd be able to get up there, and sometimes I would stay in places like that just taking in the view of everyone else playing. it was great
i spent so much time in THUG2. american wasteland felt like a downgrade
Bits of AW I really liked, the whole "seamless" level system was nice. The building up a park thing was also nice (shame the park wasn't all that great, or at all customisable but whatever). Access to bikes at any time was also pretty nice. But it didn't have the focus of THUG/2, and was nowhere near as fun in terms of story. Shit, THUG had you and your "bestie" crash a fucking tank in the Red Square. THUG 2 had you smashing all kinds of monuments. AW had you, shit, I actually can't think of much memorable from that.
The animations snap into the tricks way too quickly, it's like 1 frame you're in air, not doing a trick yet, then the next frame you're suddenly holding your board for whatever grab input you entered. I'm pretty sure the animations were much more fluid in older games- in this, it looks more like the skaters are just action figures holding poses, then quickly snapping into others. And the balancing grinds/manual animation (or lack of) is kind of off-putting as well. Sure, most people look at the balance meter to get an idea of when they should land, but being able to see your characters stagger in and out of balance was a nice feature for those who liked to play risky without any balance meters showing. And the nose manual looks stiff as fuck. They might as well be gliding T-stance across the park with how off most of those animations are.
It doesn't look bad, but there's still something ultra off about it. The one thing that matters is how it feels to play though. I could live with the artstyle/graphical fidelity it has now as long as it feels as good as the original THPS games. [editline]9th August 2015[/editline] Also they really need to nail the price of it too. I really don't think a game like this warrants the price of a full AAA game. I got a feeling they will go for that price though, meaning there's no way in hell I'm going to consider getting it until there's a decent discount.
THUG2 was the best TH game. undebatable the spanish level owned
debatable because while I liked THUG2's gameplay and skating more, I preferred the story set-up and levels of THUG1
debatable because while I liked THUG2's gameplay and skating more, I preferred the story set-up and levels of THUG1
I never played thug 1 when I was younger, only my cousins had it. When I realized you could drive a car I was like hoooly shit.
debatable because while I liked THUG2's gameplay and skating more, I preferred the story set-up and levels of THUG1
THUG 1 has my favorite level design due to how well they incorporated the skating elements into the architecture. There's vert ramps everywhere, but it actually looks natural.
I'd take a Skate 4 over this any day.
I never played thug 1 when I was younger, only my cousins had it. When I realized you could drive a car I was like hoooly shit.
The car was a novelty that controlled like ass no matter which level it was, but at least you could reuse at least two of the models for your own missions in Create-A-Park. THUG2 just sorta focused entirely on the Classic-style objectives for creation rather than the THUG1 variety.
Well, it doesn't look... Great. But hey, new Tony Hawk, so I'm happy.
EA should release Skate 4 before it becomes another HL3.
Reminds of disney's extreme skate adventure back on the ps2.
Hoodie wobble physics. 10/10 Also, did I see the characters make poses after each finished combo? Really not diggin' the fistpumps and shit.
