Wow. My freshman year in college I had to write a paper about AI and robotics, and one of the parts talked about how we were still years away from creating a robot with working humanoid legs. It appears that day is here.

Wow. That robot has progressed quite fast. I honestly never thought we would see true bipedal humanoid robots for years to come yet. Time to step up your game Asimo. Even though PETMAN and Asimo fill different roles, I don't imagine it would be hard to make a smart version of Petman and give it a better skin.

Probably the latter. You can see that they have a little bit of slack when it moves around.
I'd imagine they lock after a certain point sort of like a seat belt, so that it doesn't smash against the treadmill if it falls.

The ropes you see are there for support when and if the robot decides to malfunction or lose power. That way the thing doesn't slam into the ground and they lose millions of dollars of engineering.

well the motion is sort of too rubbery to look totally mechanical but too stiff to look entirely natural. i think if you got a person and replaced his mind with a computer that's how he would move, all sort of falsely smooth and unnatural
