Interesting watch especially the point about the homepage.
Why the fuck does Youtube have a system in place to stop showing you videos of Youtubers you've subscribed to? The whole point is that i want to see more content from them.

Jesus, I wonder if there's a way to check if there's any channel I'm not receiving any videos from.
Why the fuck does Youtube have a system in place to stop showing you videos of Youtubers you've subscribed to? The whole point is that i want to see more content from them.
Because YouTube wants to make more money by making you watch more videos. After all the ads are in and on the videos and if your subscriber feed is filled with videos you're not gonna watch, then YouTube wants to free up that space by putting in videos you're more likely to watch.
Well now I'm extra glad I switched to YouTube Videodeck. Just all my subscriptions on one screen with minimal manual organization, bam, everything I'd want from my YouTube frontpage, and none of that "hey dawg why not check out these similar videos" crap if it gets in the way of me getting the content I'm actually looking for. I'm fine with the Related sidebar and post-credits thumbnails. In fact, it's a great feature that a surprising amount of content-based websites poorly integrate. But I like it because it doesn't get in the way of doing what I actually want to do.
What should I say about this ? The guy put stuff in a microwave ten years ago, recorded it and thought he is now a "pro" and can make a living out of it. Like with every type of very competitive "show business"(including sport) only the lucky few last long, most just burn out in a couple of years.

Did you watch the video past the first 5 seconds? This isn't about his channel, it's about all channels.
im not going to remove adblock just because your """career""" as a youtuber doesnt make you enough money, guy
how many more people are we going to see cowering behind youtube careers whilst begging for money in the same breath claiming that it's a legitimate fucking career and not just a damn hobby. youtube made a way for you to get money for your views and they hold all the cards to decide what to do with the experimental system they have put in place.
just because you made bad life decisions to base your entire income and livelihood on creating youtube videos that have fallen from popularity doesnt mean that im going to finance you. get an actual job and make videos as a hobby without giving a shit about their success like it has always been and how it should be.
people who claim to be "pouring their lives" into making videos are so full of shit, and having the impudence to rant about not getting enough money for that makes it even more pathetic.

wew lad
first, no don't remove adblock but if adblock (or ublock) ever released a feature where you can whitelist channels, then you should. Or, disable ad block when watching your favourite YouTuber's video. It's a generous thing to do instead of spitting on them and saying tough luck
secondly, as a film student, filming and creating content is more than a hobby. You should say the same thing to people who produce television shows and see how far that takes you. YouTube has dramatically evolved from sharing videos about a birthday party to making amazing content to rival against old media. This enlarge has allowed people to be spotted and advance up.
In university, our course is designed with the web in mind. If you know anything about the television or film landscape (and im assuming you don't since you blatantly shit post about stuff you don't know about) viewership on those mediums is dying. People are watching more stuff online than on television, which means as soon to be graduates, we'll be working for production companies releasing content to sites like YT, netflix, amazon and so forth. YouTube is a career and its no longer an experiment
and thirdly, no they're not full of shit they're people like you and me going through life day by day. Video creation is not just a hobby stop being so thick. A lot of your favourite content would stop if you would like others to get real jobs
and what is a real job anyway? isn't everything a hobby, it just angers me that you don't know what the fuck you're talking about just like with everything. Even my splattered shit skid mark on the side of my toilet bowl was more understandable than what you just shat out on your keyboard

Did you even check the entire video?
Surely a lot of this is just people becoming disinterested in a channel's content or they stop using youtube as much?
I suppose the youtube homepage not being your latest subscriptions might be a major factor, but I just have the subscriptions page as my youtube bookmark and I assume any other sane person does too.

As he mentions in the video, you'd be wrong to assume as such.
I gotta say that it's probably a personal issue, the whole deal with the viewer count dropping.
There's hundreds of people with the same types of channels, so I personally sub to a bunch and switch which one I wanna visit regularly for a week or so.
Also after YouTube's few updates on decreased payouts and focusing on longer videos, things have started to feel forced sometimes.. like the creator's not doing parts of the video because it's entertaining, but rather because they're on a schedule.
It's all really gone downhill lately.
I noticed that Youtube keeps recommending videos to me that I've already watched days, hours, heck even a few minutes ago.
What's up with that?

Things seem to just outright disappear from the watch history, or not get put there.
It's annoying.

YouTube recommends me my own videos all the time
YouTube recommends me my own videos all the time
it's a metaphor
I've noticed the subscribers view has been missing several videos from various channels I subscribe to. I missed one or two videos from the Man At Arms dudes (despite AWE ME uploading shit constantly), but thought it was just buried in my sub feed. Today I noticed that a couple of videos from the SBFP channel just will not appear.
If Youtube are now filtering what you see based on how much you actually watch that subscription, then it's having a noticeable impact and is a pretty awful adjustment to the algorithm that is going to fucking RUIN smaller channels who do not get consistently high views. I understand their desire to optimise income, but holy shit a sub feed shouldn't be algorithmically driven, just a list of videos in reverse chronological order.
What was most shocking to me was the sudden drop off due to the "new" algorithims. Like god damn, that's one hell of a drop.

would this list be affected? or is it just trending?

This list is impacted for me as far as I can tell. I've been using it for over two years or so I think and only today noticed videos are not appearing in the feed that should be.
For example;

I get videos from the Grumps and Cr1tikal, as they get consistently high views. But these videos from the SBFP have not appeared in that feed today, I can only assume because their views fluctuate a bit and I don't watch every series they start.
Almost missed Nier dammit.

lmao who is the fool who thought this was a good idea??????
What a FUCK UP
yeah i noticed that after skipping a few internet comment etiquette videos simply bc i didnt have time to watch them, i missed out on a few new ones
yet, i rarely watch jacksflims but he keeps appearing in my feed every time he uploads something new
same thing happened with smaller channels i follow too, you'll notice on the sidebar that your subscription list has a number and that number indicates new videos since youve last visited
it pisses me off that YT has implemented an algorithm to filter that shit, seriously wtf
Did you watch the video past the first 5 seconds? This isn't about his channel, it's about all channels.
I have watched the entire video, and my post also isn't entirely about him, but Youtubers in general. "Putting stuff in a microwave" is almost a metaphor describing half of youtube. Because I watched it I know he mentions the Hydraulic press channels there. That channel is now having its 15 minutes of glory, which will end soon, and something new will come. Just like his microwave thing it was pure luck, I just hope the operator knows it, and doesn't quit his real job. Youtube is like any other media network, they give the "prime time" to ones who can make them most money, it is a very competitive business. He sounds like some indie game dev who made one hit years ago and is now whining why nobody buys his new games.
youtube went down the shitter several years ago, yet continues to get worse over time. its actually quite a feat, really.
it's irrelevant if the quality of his videos has improved, because youtube has utterly exploded
this guy has fallen to the bottom of the pile, i don't think it's necessarily indicative of an issue with youtube (there are definitely issues with subs, but i don't think they can be blamed)
look at redlettermedia for instance. Less than 500k subs but they consistently get high views 200k+ on their longest content
the rant comes across to me as a little fish that was previously in a little pond, but now that pond is a sea and he's still a little fish
there's nothing about his channel that i find unique or interesting, it looks like a lot of other channels
I have some subscriptions that I don't always watch their videos, it's common, but when my subscription feed is half as dense as I know they're supposed to be.
Almost every week I'll find and entire series of videos that were just curiously absent from my subscription box, or worse. Remember that channel you subscribed to a while back, but you didn't watch her livestream announcements, or a couple of vlogs? Yeah her channel didn't die for about two months, youtube just didn't FUCKING SHOW YOU
-YouTube Videodeck-
Oh, looks cool, I will be trying that out.
Thanks.

Probably a mixture of both. His channel doesn't look interesting and there is more competition - BUT as you can see from his video, algorithm changes clearly do fuck stuff up. I think in general YouTube should have a transparent algorithm and focus on subscriptions because a transparent algorithm would probably be exploited, but the best channels are still likely to do well in my opinion regardless of all the weird stuff YouTube has been doing with subscriptions.

But that's the thing, YouTube has an algorithm, and due to this it just favors those types of videos. It's about length and not so much about how good/creative/timeconsuming(It was to make) it is.
