Side note at the end of the video, Cr1tikal says he's been practically blacklisted from Twitch after making videos about why he isn't a fan of the site.
They’re scumbags but goddamn you would have to have literal fucking dirt inside your skull to buy into this
They’re scumbags but goddamn you would have to have literal fucking dirt inside your skull to buy into this
Some people actually do, unfortunately
I hate twitch but none of the streamers I watch are going to switch to something better. :(
They’re scumbags but goddamn you would have to have literal fucking dirt inside your skull to buy into this
You would not believe how stupid some people can be. A dude at my job has sent hundreds of dollars to some girl "so she can come to the US". And that hasn't even been the first time he was scammed by the same kind of thing. There's a reason why all of those incredibly obvious scams are still around.
The guy tells you straight-up it's a scam and you still fall for it. What the fuck, I can't understand.
I hate twitch but none of the streamers I watch are going to switch to something better. :(
smashcast.tv (formally known as hitbox.tv because they though Project M would bring views when Twitch banned it) is a gaming livestream alternative to Twitch if you're looking into one. None of the streamers that stream on Twitch will switch to another platform (moreso if they're already partners) because it's profitable and a huge site to get exposure on but you could try and follow some streamers on Smashcast and see if you like them. Despite the name, there's non-Smash stuff.
I've looked a bit into mixer and they do some cool things. They actually have a side-by-side stream feature where you and a mate can stream side by side to do a coop stream or something it's really fuckin' cool. Twitch is annoying and the player always fucks with me. But major streamers won't switch because it's the biggest platform.
I hate twitch but none of the streamers I watch are going to switch to something better. :(
cool streaming alternatives: https://mixer.com/ - Microsoft Owned, Patented Tech lets you stream with 0.5-1 second of delay. just added a Tipping system so you can directly tip a streamer. It's still the early days of this site so if you can dig yourself a fortress there your set. youtube - obvious big choice etc.
Cool, I've never heard of that site 0.5-1s delay sounds really good.
mixer is fantastic and generally is a better service in every regard ASIDE FROM ONE THING noone uses it I use it for videogame screensharing with friends, I don't use it to be a streamer, and I wish I could password my stream on it
Reminds me of a certain mobile OS.
My dislike for athene has been decreasing over 10+ years. It's so low now I pretty much feel sorry for them. 2006-2007 - Cool troll on youtube 2009-2010 - Poker thing. Okay cool. Something new okay. 2010-2011 - Okay you're doing science and talking like you've figured out something new about the mind 2012-2015 - Trying to get back fans by "resurrecting" his WoW thing and playing heartstone 2015-2016 - Starting a "school" for smart people. 2016+ - Money grab streams 24/7

Discord is more ideal these days for those sorts of informal meetups though, because the latency is still really good there.
I remember this guy arguing with Destiny, he has some kind of non-philosophy that I can't remember but I'm pretty sure it amounts to something like "you tell everybody in the world to think logically and they'll just go oh okay and everything will be perfect."
The thing with scams is that they are designed to appear obivous to filter "smart" people and target people who would fall for obivous scams such as the elderly, people with lower intelligence, and people with certain attitude traits that would prevent them from seeking help or admitting to being scammed for example. When "smart" people get scammed they learn to not get scammed again and may even seek action to stop or combat the scammers. When vulnerable people get scammed they often keep getting scammed and the scammers get away with it for a very long time.
The guy tells you straight-up it's a scam and you still fall for it. What the fuck, I can't understand.
I don't know much of this guy's history, but the impression I'm getting is that they've built up a community around himself, let it grow for a few years, and is now milking the vulnerable followers, who will support them (and give them money) no matter what, out of fear of losing that feeling of belonging and companionship from being part of their community. edit: basically i think they've created a situation where a small number of people with a lot of money to spare are feeling social pressure to give these scumbags money
-snip- Wow I'm a fucking idiot, should have looked at the video because that's exactly what it was about.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Makingsense/ Crazy how this guy is the most intelligent person on the planet, core value logic really is interesting.

Is it really a scam if they say straight up it is?
Is it really a scam if they say straight up it is?
Yes it's still a scam It would only not be a scam if there was no physical way for them to make any profit of people's idiocy, then it really would remain a stream for entertainment purposes only, if people really wanted to donate for just a performance, then that's fine
Never heard of Athene, looked him up and his Wikipedia article seems to be hinting at something :v: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bachir_Boumaaza (first line under Personal life).
Is it really a scam if they say straight up it is?
Saying "I'm doing something illegal" while doing something illegal, would you know, ideally not make that thing legal.
I see "It's just a prank bro it's a prank" hasn't aged one bit
Athene is scum and I have no idea how he ever got popular. He's done literally everything you can think of to ride the popularity train into unobscurity since he started on the internet. He was never funny or clever or anything. His whole career has been one long cash grab.
Glink did a pretty good profile piece on the guy, worth checking it out.
I still don't even know what people are sending him money for
