Sagan implied it but humans come from humans in the same sense we are apes and came from apes. They wouldnt exactly be a different species but merely a slightly different type of human.

It was implied, that over the course of time, We humans, as a species, would "evolve" past our flaws (IE. War, hatred) and gain more strengths.
I don't think that we will ever evolve past Hatred, we may gain a strength that could possibly outweigh it, but I still strongly believe that we will always have hatred.
