• A music video in 4KB

That is, the executable that generated the video (code + graphics + music) is 4KB in size. Get it here
Would barely call this a music video but it's certainly really nice shader porn and nice music. Gotta love demoscene shit, though. 4kb is impressive.
Oh boy, is it time to post my favorite prod of all time? And to think that it was released almost 9 years ago? Honestly, it's mindblowing. http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=52938 There's also this very interesting making-of presentation - a must read for everybody who's interested in that sort of stuff.
To be fair, the images used are not included in the 4kb, the actual package is about 14mb haha. Getting music to sound that good in 4kb is impressive itself though.

It comes with some extra shit on the side, but that's not part of the demo. (Screenshots, readme, etc) You can delete everything apart from the executable and it'll still work exactly the same.

mfing keygen music thread and no razor1911? Let's fix this [editline]30th December 2017[/editline] AMIGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
The demoscene produces some cool shit, ala Kkrieger which is an FPS in 96kb:

I absolutely love some of the demoscene stuff some of it is so strange but its very addicting.
I never knew this world of programs existed, let alone there being a competition for them.
My personal faves, absolutely mindboggling how much maths and shit go into it.
Wait, so, all of this is completely computer generated? Music, visuals - all of it?
My favourite 64k. It's cheesy but cute Can't have a demoscene thread without this classic
Wait, so, all of this is completely computer generated? Music, visuals - all of it?
Yes.
My personal faves, absolutely mindboggling how much maths and shit go into it.
I love these too even though they're so hilariously edgy, but the music is good. [editline]30th December 2017[/editline]
Wait, so, all of this is completely computer generated? Music, visuals - all of it?
Pretty much. It's all just clever math, procedural generation, and abuse of hardware.

This is like that scene in 'I, Robot' where Sonny paints the picture of the bridge. Artists will become obsolete! :worried:
Holy shit. This is like that scene in 'I, Robot' where Sonny paints the picture of the bridge. Artists will become obsolete! :worried:
It's just like any other game engine / rendering software - but made with an extremely small filesize budget. So they employ a bunch of tricks, like generating terrain or cloud with various noise algorithms, in pretty much the same way for instance Minecraft generates it's terrain. The program itself is not doing anything creative or artistic - it's just following it's very carefully constructed instructions.
Something to note is that it's only a filesize limit, there is no RAM or CPU limit but it should run realtime. The programs usually have some loading time to generate all the data which can be mutiple GBs and use small but taxing algorithms to render, if you attempt to run a recent demo on a 386 it'll catch fire and explode.
Are there any good writeups/dev blogs for these scenes? The only one I've read is for the elevated, video already posted. Edit: 8088 MPH reminded me of 8088 domination

One of my favourites, even though the recording quality is crap. Most oldskool demos are about the machine's hardware rather than size. Means they'll rely on tricks and trade size for speed. (precalculation/tables, loop unrolling+inlining/speedcode...) A game dev -- Traveller's Tales dev, no less -- did demoscene *long* before the demoscene picked it up.
