Well, it was made for a device which was popular with kids, but with the presence of alcoholism and spousal abuse I don't think "made for kids" was something the developers were going for.

I mean, in what other NES/Famicon game can you punch your boss, sing karaoke, get lessons for an unidentifiable instrument that you've probably never heard of before, get drunk, argue with your wife, divorce your wife, punch your wife, punch your kids and then search for treasure on a far away island?

You have so many options, yazuka whittling down your health for the majority of the game, and yet you have to do precisely what you could only ever figure out with an [i]exact[/i] guide or else you either can't progress - or you die and start allllll over. Even for what the game could do, this Takeshi guy must've made this as a joke to torture gamers or something.
I tried playing through it once.
You'll notice the words [I]tried[/I] and [i]once[/I]
I got to the map part by myself out of sheer luck. But even with a guide could never get past the treasure cave. Didn't know about the pause exploit though.

Also, another fact- because of this game, Nintendo was very skeptical of another man who had an idea for a game and wanted to create it. Thanks to the CEO of Nintendo, however, they gave the man the greenlight. Who was this man? Shigesato Itoi, the creator of the Mother series. Yeah, Takeshi's challenge almost singlehandedly stopped Mother from ever existing. So there's that.
First time I've watched a Jontron video, the guy is awesome. He's also dapper as fuck in that suit.
