An interesting little piece. Did any of you have sea monkeys growing up? Growing up in Norway, the first time I heard about them was through the South Park episode. If I'd known about them as a kid I'd probably buy it in a heart beat.
I had Sea Monkeys, my cat knocked them over and they all died on my desk
Knew about them as a kid, never had them though. Wow, that's a lot more disappointing than I imagined they'd be.
...short

ehh. what the hell.

They could have fused and grown stronger with all the semen on your desk and become actual sea men.
Well that got dark.
the fact that he was selling 'invisible goldfish' is almost as bad as the donations to the aryan nation
Triops are waaaay better than brine shrimp imho, they look absolutely prehistoric and you can actually see the things. Brineshrimp are better as feeders.

I was just watching this remembering I had something similar, but different. It was probably these. I remember you'd feed them these little spherical food pellets. They were actually kinda cool, had to have a lamp on them or something if I remember right.
I did not realize how familiar this format was until I saw that Penny Lane directed this. She's pretty amazing, she got an award for a documentary a lot like this called Nuts!

I mentioned this in the aquarium thread but these things terrified me when I was younger so much that I never used the kit I was given as a present.
Now I've decided to stop being such a massive pussy and have got a decent tank for them to live in.
I mass produced sea monkeys in a 1 gallon tank for fish food.
I used to have sea monkeys, every kid at my school had them. I used to get super upset because some kids in my school would brag about the sick shit they'd do, like pouring bleach into the tank or not feeding them or leaving them to dry out in the garden.
Some kids were fucked up, man. I looked after mine, but when I couldn't take care of them anymore, I released them into my pond.
Someone who you thought was really eccentric and neat, only for that world to suddenly fall apart when you find out who they really are...
That's incredibly relatable, maybe haunting in a number of ways.

When I was reading your post and you said "sick shit" I thought you were gonna say that the other kids were telling you that their sea monkeys were doing skateboard flips and bmx tricks or something.

I got upset just reading this. Animal cruelty really hits me hard, especially when it's animals people are supposed to be caring for, regardless of size.

I used to culture brine shrimp for LD50 experiments in the lab
the fun part is when they start mating.

the male clamps onto the female and they swim like this for days while the female poops out hundreds of eggs
