I'm not very impressed by the main character, nor any of the characters bar the bad general guy and [SP]Vader. Not really sure if I need spoiler tags at this point since everyone pretty much knows about him and he's in the trailer[/SP]

Technically it's a new (or old, depending on how you're looking at things) model of the AT-AT, so it's plausible that the ones on Hoth were modified from this variant.

X-Wings have stronger cannons then Snowspeeders.
Plus that X-Wing shot it in the neck.

because it's a big budget blockbuster and they're not going to have a flaccid ass explosion localized to the neck especially given that that's probably one of the more climactic scenes
try 'fun' for a change
Also there was a scene in Episode 5 where a Snowspeeder shoots a downed AT-AT in the neck and it explodes.

Also, this new variant is apparently primarily used for hauling cargo, not combat, so that backs this up a bit more.

They haven't retconned anything.
The AT-AT's weakness is its neck and legs (for cables), anything hits the neck that is along the lines of a baster cannon or a rocket and the AT-AT drops like a rock.
The AT-ACT is also the transporter variant and compared to the AT-AT its not as armored meaning the neck area is even more of a weak point.
A fighters blasters will take out any AT-AT Variant if it hits the neck in canon, they haven't changed anything because even in the originals, a damn snowspeeder kills an AT-AT by blasting the neck, also in Rebels a AT-TE takes out an AT-AT by hitting its neck with its mass-driver cannon which is just another glorified blaster that is similar to what both the x-wing and snowspeeders have. Additionally once the neck is hit it causes a chain reaction explosion which blows up the whole AT-AT, that's why the cargo doors went poof, this has been shown in other Star Wars media, Rebel's showed it as well.
Also its a film, stop caring so much specially if you don't bother to look into the lore of it all. :v:
I dunno why people are complaining about the AT-AT, they made it pretty clear it's beast as fuck when it ignored the rocket blast from that fat Asian guy. The neck has always been the weak spot.

That's the power of Disney writing. They do it with Marvel too. They have to have punny or quippy trailer lines to appeal to the lowest common denominator when they market these things. That's how they make so much money.

I feel like in every still shot she has the same numb facial expression.
I for one think it looks like a fresh take on the series, and am very excited for it.

It's become fairly obvious that writers really don't have much power over Marvel films, considering how they all basically have the same tone, style and sense of humor. This applies to Stsr Wars as well. Why do you think Episode 7 felt like an average Joss Whedon movie with its writing and humor? Disney wants to pander to the audience it got with the MCU. The producers and executives practically write these movies. They're engineered to be similar in style so they keep making money. That's what all these movies under Disney are, now. Just soulless cash cows, and the quality and originally don't matter as long as they hit number one at the box office.

Because the X-wings were escorting the Transports so they could make the jump to Lightspeed? Snowspeeders aren't space-capable.

Their were hardly any speaking lines or anything to really give proper exposition of them though, how did you determine that so quickly? Or is there more material I'm not aware of
