It's because they didn't bother to optimize the game. They are doing these updates because they didn't expect the game to sell so many copies.

unity isn't the fault, and almost never is. some of the best games are made with unity. it's just that it's really easy to leave it where it is when it comes to optimization, since you don't have to develop the backend.
mk8d at 1080p 60fps is an example of nintendo knowing what you can do with the hardware and building a game around it, vs a third party game being made when nobody else knows how to develop for the switch, being developed for launch.
its konami, did anyone expect decent optimization. theyre only even doing this because after intending to leave the gaming market for pacinko and fired lots of their devs they suddenly got regulated, and now have to run back to gaming.
