WHY
What's with all the 3D printing news lately?
WHY
because some people like expensive tacky things?
What's with all the 3D printing news lately?
It's an expanding technology, and cool as fuck.
I want an MRI of my entire body as it is now and then I want a mini model of it i wonder if they'd do that
I can see it being used for extremely accurate lab models.
Alternatively, this technology could be used to make custom made joint replacements. 1. make 3d image using MRI 2. print out the desired joint (say, a hip for example) 3. make appropriate alterations to the joint for corrections. 4. use plastic print out as a blank for a metallic mold. Of course, it wouldn't be perfect, but it would give another option than a total hip replacement for minor problems like surface issues with the femoral head necrosis of the femoral head. Perhaps they could make out a more custom fit cup too.
the ideal for printing out joints for ceramic printing is to have it cost less to print something then it is to order it with the same level of quality. I'm not so wowed in 3d printing, I can cnc most of what I want, but even when I say that I'm still interested in 3d printing foods and gel robots (gels that can actuate).
I'm not interested until they make it edible
july thirty
I'm not interested until they make it edible
I'd love a chocolate fetus.
i dunno about you guys but that's pretty fuckin cool. except for the bracelet, wearing fetus doesn't sound like a fashion trend im willing to take part in
I'd love a chocolate fetus.
if one could print cake batter then you could but the baby into the oven as a bun. I can see twilight fans pay for a chocolate printed fetus.
I actually think that's pretty damn cool v:v:v
i want a mini me
go back to your mother uterus
I rather have a full body scan with colored but transparent organs, muscle, bones, etc. That'd be pretty damn neato.

They should have shown more designs. surprised they only had 2
I rather have a full body scan with colored but transparent organs, muscle, bones, etc. That'd be pretty damn neato.
if I had the money I would get one, though I'd also work out a lot more as well.
Can't you like, buy a 3d printer for only like $2000? They are pretty cheap. Though I'd imagine the material used to make stuff could be pretty pricey. If normal printer ink is like $30-$100 depending on the type, that material must be like $200-$500 per cartridge.
depends on the printer, 2000 can be in the low end and it's not all cartridges, there are ones that use filaments and extruders, there are powder printers which can use lasers to melt the layer of powder, there are plenty of others that do not use cartridges. makerbot can't do what that printer in the video did. by guess 25 thousand US dollars to 80 thousand for a machine in that video
I want one of these of my meat and two potatoes, then I can mount it on the shelf in front of the door so it's the first thing people see when they walk in. If they ask what it is, I'll direct them to the gold plate attached to it inscribed with "Brains of the operation™". Can I get one made in Australia?
