Kurzgesagt just made this video, and I think it's a pretty good way to inform people who don't know about the situation in Iraq and Syria. I thought it'd be a good idea to share it with you guys.
Kurzgesagt puts out such good videos. Wonderful animation too.
Finally, someone tl;drs it for me. Now I understand all of it.
Pretty sad when in Syria and now Iraq that sworn enemies made small peace talks to launch attacks at ISIS.
Oh, my. This really isn't as simple as I thought it was. Nice tl;dr video. Puts it in words I can understand.
imo if there is one reason we should ever be in the middle east it's to deal with isis
People always assume that America's military engagements are good things. They aren't. They kill innocent civilians, they destroy whole societies. The USA has a long history of supporting dictators, and crushing average people. So when you guys send your military overseas to do some more killing, quite frankly a lot of folks can't see much difference between your army and the Taliban, or the Iraqi National Guard, or whoever it is you decide to fight this week. Both kill innocent civilians.
People always assume that America's military engagements are good things.
A significant portion of Americans thought that the Iraq war was a terrible idea from the day it started. Not all Americans are warmongering blowhards like Bush was.
People keep saying that ISIS was "too hardcore" so they were disowned, this really isn't the case. Al Qaeda didn't take some moral high ground here, they just used that as a quasi excuse for cutting them off. They didn't like the student becoming more powerful and questioning the teacher. Also the vid was pretty accurate for a quick overview.
