Was released in German cinema recently and it seemed to outperform Inside Out (Disney) at the moment :v:

Good on Germany though for having a laugh.
Rhineland is a fine land once more.
That internet scene made me chuckle
What... How... Huh? In any other country I wouldn't have been suprised, but in my experience Germans hate being reminded of their history and are always really PC about it. This is like the exect opposite, I would have never expected this.

Last time in Germany I saw quite a few Hitler jokes made in public so I think some things are relaxing.
By a few Hitler jokes, I mean a guy Sieg Heiling drunk at a karaoke bar and alot of Hitler staches drawn on Ads
Hoping this shows here with subs or something, it would be great to watch

It's very important for Germany to remember their history. What you are thinking of are a laws against "Wiederbetätigung" (=pursuing Nazi ideology again). These laws can be quite stupid in some cases like Wolfenstein not being allowed to use the Swastika, but are pretty much the opposite of "hating being reminded of their past".
I mean, it's funny and all, but doesn't anyone find it a little disturbing that they're treating one of the biggest genocidal, racially motivated, mass murderers in history as a comedy figure?
I mean, what if someone had people dressed in KKK hoods walk around Charleston, South Carolina doing funny antics as if they aren't really a big deal? Generally, I just don't think real evil is funny.
Holy shit where can I order the DVD and/or will this be on Netflix?
I wonder if they will pull off a emohitler joke

this is one of those films that would actually be way better to watch in subtitles, rather than in an english dub

Would you really want to live in a world where no jokes that could ever offend anyone were made? Its healthy to look at things through a lens of humor.

That's not what I said. There's a difference between offending people and treating someone who literally killed millions of people based on racism and hatred as a joker. It doesn't bother me because it might offend people. It bothers me because Hitler is such an absolutely terrible person that I'm not sure how anyone can find him funny. The fact that many do is just a sign that we, as a society, are forgetting what actually happened. You might think that's a good thing, but I don't.
I think that certain people, certain places, etc. should stay serious. We shouldn't try to make Hitler funny, we shouldn't try to make the death of millions of American Indians funny, we shouldn't try to make black slave ships funny, etc. We need to remember that those were committed by real people, and in the case of Hitler, not even that long ago.

Sometimes dude, you just have to let it go.
oh ok i understand
What? Wouldn't Germany be pissing themselves over this? Aren't they on soccer-mom levels of overprotection over violence? They even censored blood for the German version on TF2. With this, the show is literally about Hitler. Why's this an exception?
It's not violence and it's mocking him.
There comes a point where you can turn them in a funny person while having everyone still remembering the death and destruction. Like how the image caesar and Napolean are these days. Meanwhile, everything in the film takes a dump at every turn by making Hitler deal with people he would have gassed. You could say it does not make the Hitler in it funny but show how blatantly idiotic his ideas are today and how things have changed for the better to the point even if he would return it would be irreversible.
I agree with napoleon as an example. Our modern society has absolutely no idea what he did. He's just a funny short guy (who wasn't actually short).
I, personally, don't want Hitler to become a funny loudmouth with a weird mustache. I want him to be remembered for what he did.
Young germans are generally really easy on stuff like this. I want to see this!
So when can I watch this. :v:

I take it you don't like it either that Monty Python did a sketch like this back in 1970?

Theres a difference between making light of something and making fun of something. Making a comedy based around Hitler as a person doesn't at all downplay the atrocities he enacted during WWII. Laughing at an Ann Frank joke doesn't mean you're pro-nazi or don't care about what happened during WWII. Lighten up a bit, bud.

We actually have a really good idea of who Napoleon was, it's not like information disappears after a 100 years.
Hitler hasn't been and won't be forgotten as a murderer, making fun of him doesn't downplay him one bit, it just makes fun of him. Vikings and Pirates are constantly made light of in modern media, kids dress up as them on Halloween and they're on the Disney Channel helping kids count, and theres metal bands playing homage to them, but nobody sensible has forgotten that they were thieves and rapists.
Looks funny. I might watch it, apparently it is coming to Dutch cinemas as well.
And I don't think we should care if we laugh about a fictional depiction of somebody who made people do horrible things.
Holocaust won't be forgotten just because we laugh at the frictional scenario of hitler in modern days.

no one will misremember what he did
but the man doesn't deserve an ounce of respect, making a joke out of his visage is honestly the best possible way to put the bastard down

If you play Hitler as a straight-up laugh and parody, nobody minds. People have been loving making fun of how Hitler shouts at shit for as long as I can remember.
The stuff that rubs (some) people the wrong way is stuff that has more to do with general Nazi ideology and iconography. I don't think most people mind anymore, it's mostly the older generations, people living in areas with higher amounts of Neo Nazis, and people that just care about a perfect image in general. As long as there's some chance for Neo Nazis to gain any serious foothold, there'll be people who want to ensure people take that shit seriously. But not even Neo Nazis would want to compare themselves to Hitler, he's pretty much the closest thing to a supervillain the modern world's had, so Hitler himself is usually fair game for comedy.
Personally I'd prefer it if we could just make fun of the whole thing like with all the other terrible things that have happened in the past, but I'm not living in an area where Neo Nazis are an even remotely serious problem nowadays, so it's easy for me to talk.

Nazi ideology should be mocked like the joke it is
