I am not willing to give 10:45 to this video
I was born in the wrong generation. My generation. MY GENERATION. I wish I was 30. If you know what I'm saying.
this generation they don't know
It's much easier for new music to get exposure these days, it's a bit of a double edged sword which means pop/broad appeal music gets way too much attention, but all you have to do is search. It doesn't help when people tie themselves down to one or two genres exclusively. I guess you can argue you were born in the wrong generation though if you wanted to experience older kinds of music in a social atmosphere. I'd have loved to live through the 90's drum and bass/house scene simply because of the events. Unless you live in London or you're willing to travel far and pay for a hotel, it's hard to find the music you like outside of your own home as most of the good clubs/bars only play pop or modern rap.

I had the same mentality when I was twelve.

Tbh. I never understood this "generation" thing. For every "music generation" and style, 70's, 80's 90's, rap, hip hop, rock whatever you find ENDLESS alternatives and parallels. This "generation" thing seems more of an excuse for lazy thinking to me.
I don't mind most new music but I still hate when the radio people say "here's our number 1 song this week!", prepare myself to get excited then find out it's an extremely catchy but terrible rap/dubstep/pop song so have to turn off the radio for a few minutes. The voices and lyrics are pretty much all about something sad or sound weird or autotuned in some way. The rap songs are a little more upbeat but meh, can't stand having a rhyme or catchy part of a bad song stuck in my head. Although saying that it gives me something to look forward to as I turn 80 years old, maybe they'll have to blast Iron Maiden or maybe Judas Priest at full volume for me to be able to hear the music and whilst their ears are bleeding mine will probably be having a nostalgia-gasm or being cleaned out by a nurse. Overall the entire music generation thing is entirely your own opinion and no one elses.
-snip- GOD I CANT POST
This kid repeats the same thing for 11 minutes.
All I hope is the new age of Dubstep and such music doesn't drown out the genres I listen to myself.
All I hope is the new age of Dubstep and such music doesn't drown out the genres I listen to myself.
What sense does that even make? How can a genre of music "drown out" another? Just because one genre is popular doesn't mean that another will suddenly disappear.
All I hope is the new age of Dubstep and such music doesn't drown out the genres I listen to myself.
Dubstep hardly seems as popular as it was a few years back. Now the in thing seems to be house music, considering the amount of festivals dedicated to it, even though a lot of the popular stuff sounds the same.
I doubt that this kid can even enjoy music, he's obviously autistic. Anyway, here's a modern track by the one and only Lupe Fiasco:
I barely listen to any music that wasn't made while i was alive, i guess that counts as 'my generation' right? I mean, check out this funky beat
Even if the kid's argument and points were actually valid, I'd still have to turn it off simply because his voice is unbearable to me. Also, somewhat off-topic, but OP every time I see your avatar I just have to listen to Wish You Were Here in it's entirety several times.
Is this one of those kids who think that AC/DC and Zeppelin are like the hottest shit since the sun?
OH fuck off. This kid is a fucking idiot who can't google search. Because my generation did this. Oh and this. Actually, after doing a quick google search, the whole generation thing is fucked up. Fuck it, I'm on a music post spree anyway. Here have some Post rock..heavy...metal. Okay I'm done now, basically, there are plenty of genres that you can easily google search for. This kid doesn't understand media, anyone who says this generation of music is shit should get out because the Musical medium is nichified to no end. You can hate some parts of it and love others, quit whining.
"Mucus" I get it, oh that was a great joke!
Even if the kid's argument and points were actually valid
He made no points in his arguments, hell he didn't even make an argument. All he did was whine for 10 minutes straight saying "This generation is awful because it is." and "Rock and Metal are the only good genres." which is the same bullshit you hear from every other 12 year old who thinks that the only good music is older music.
I don't like the style of new music these days. My taste is more on hard rock and prog rock and shit. There's not a lot of good hard rock bands these days, people are just tossing out the blues and not a lot of thought or emotion is put into most bands I find. There are a few good bands I find here and there that are recent, but I mostly stick to stuff I am familiar with which is 70's stuff. I wish hard rock would get some sort of rebirth in creativity like rap music is doing these days. I hate how my taste in music just gets tossed into a bunch of 14 year old hipsters who say new music is shit by most people, just because I am pretty exclusive on 70's bands.

I can name a ton of throwback prog bands off the top of my head that try to emulate that 70's prog rock sound.

There are definitly going to be throwbacks.
The great thing about modern music is that it isn't just one style. I can name a ton of throwback prog bands off the top of my head that try to emulate that 70's prog rock sound.
I don't want to hear throwback bands, I want to hear new shit that has as much thought and talent put into rock bands that I love from the 70's. Death Grips comes to mind. So much creativity. energy, and talent is put into their sound, you can tell they really really care about putting out the best stuff as they possibly can. When I look towards my favorite genres which is hard rock or progressive rock I can't find a lot of new music that has that emotional and creative edge to it. For example when I listen to a lot of new prog and lot of it is just bands trying to show off and do really complex time signatures which isn't really what I even liked about Prog Rock. I dunno, I guess I am cursed with really specific tastes for bands, they have to really click for me in order for me to listen to them many times and that is rare. I can't even really explain what I am looking for other than "more talent" which is kind of a dumb thing to say but it's true nonetheless. I have a hard time explaining myself I guess. I guess I want bands to make music that I can really look up to and consider them almost holy in a sense. Music is one of the most important things in my life, and I have really high standards for it. It has to move me.
