dat doppler effect
RC glider is going at 400mph, and it has no motor at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oix6sHKzOLU Its crazy how fast these toy can be.
Sounds like a pod racer going by.
"That looked fast."
Doesn't have shit on the World's Fastest Lawnmower.
Resident r/c tech here. The brand Traxxas makes a ready-to-run car which goes 100mph, the only things you need to get for it are batteries, and a charger. Plus an iphone to unlock the 100mph capability because traxxas doesn't want every jackass and their mother to do 100 into some poor assholes ankle. Have some pics of my unboxing of a customer's xo-1 at my store. [t]http://i.imgur.com/Oc21di5.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/ghM1rB5.jpg[/t] The motor, for reference, is almost the size of a soda can. [editline]29th March 2014[/editline] I bring this up because I got to drive the car. I've been in the r/c field for ~12 years (which encompasses playing with cars of course, designing my own parts, and having expertise in almost all fields of the hobby) and this thing was fucking terrifying to drive, at 60. I didn't want to get it up to 100. The car in OP's video is little more than 4 foam wheels, a really high-strung motor, a shitton of capacitors, and a slab of carbon fiber. Not a true r/c imo. It's along the lines of a salt-lake racer- made to break records and that's it. Things like the xo-1 impress me because you can do more than just go fast in a straight line.
Are you saying you can't drive it fast unless you have an iPhone? What bullshit is that. Why exactly iPhones?
Are you saying you can't drive it fast unless you have an iPhone? What bullshit is that. Why exactly iPhones?
The iPhone software is for accessing the computer inside, which can regulate and troubleshoot a shitton of stuff.
The iPhone software is for accessing the computer inside, which can regulate and troubleshoot a shitton of stuff.
Why have it iPhone exclusive? That's pretty bullshit.
imagine that hitting your feet ouch
Why have it iPhone exclusive? That's pretty bullshit.
Probably because they don't have an android developer.
Probably because they don't have an android developer.
They really shouldn't make such important features only available if you buy a really expensive particular phone. Bad thinking.
Partial credit only because 188.87 rounds to 189, not 188!

The rear splitter and the front spoiler for example.
Why have it iPhone exclusive? That's pretty bullshit.
because iphones/pods are literally dirt fucking cheap. it works with 3rd gen iphones and ipods which you can pick up for next to nothing at... well anywhere, really. [editline]29th March 2014[/editline] Here's an older version of op's car, still very similar though. It seems i was wrong in my description earlier, though it is still extremely basic.
because iphones/pods are literally dirt fucking cheap. it works with 3rd gen iphones and ipods which you can pick up for next to nothing at... well anywhere, really.
I'm still not really getting the logic in this. You assume that assholes that would drive these things into peoples ankles wouldn't have a "dirt cheap" ipod to use for it to work.
that's traxxas' logic, not mine. you have to use the phone to unlock the car's high speed option, and it says something along the lines of "traxxas does not accept liability for the dumb shit you do with this rocket" [editline]29th March 2014[/editline] even with the high speed pinion, the speed control electronically limits the car to ~60.
imagine that hitting your feet ouch

and this is exactly why companies spend thousands in aerodynamic research. these dumbasses had NO WINGS on their cars, that means no downforce. all it took was for that car to get slightly squirrely. there's more to speed than HUEHUEHUEUH CRAM A BIG MO-TOR IN IT BAWS HUHHUHU.

The dissociated mannerisms of the guy who checked up on the person who was hit really annoyed me. Was it so difficult to lift his jeans up as quickly as possible to check on the impact instead of utilizing the usual "are you alright? you gonna be alright" routine with his annoying fucking voice? Was he afraid of looking gay for the camera or expressing any emotion other than the stone cold stoic bullshit? No, at that instance he is NOT fucking alright, he is hurt and could probably use some comforting words and company. The way the situation was handled in general gave this really wrong "I am only doing this because it is socially expected, I don't actually give a fuck" vibe.

Hobbywise, speed isn't fun. speed's only fun for going in straight lines. wow gee amazing. I like a nice handling car too. anyway, back on topic. These are the kids I see all the time except they got their hands on some pretty expensive, very powerful electronics. These kind of kids are the "bru i am cold as ICE BRU CUM AT ME BRU" with their #yoloswaggins and flat hats. You know the kind of douchebag im talking about. This is what happens when you let anyone but pros play with crazy things, no matter what it is. Whether it be a "toy", like that video, a full-size car, whatever. Basically, Don't be fucking retarded with extremely powerful things.
I have a traxxas Rustler VXL upgraded with an 11.1 volt battery and another set of gears. There's literally no place anywhere near where I live that supports its speed, the football field is just too small to drive it at full speed, so I've got some experience with fast RC cars and Traxxas. It just pisses me off that they'd figure it was a good idea to somehow tie iPhones into their products, like jeez have it come with some $20 monitor/controller that does what the iPhone would be doing.

I used to be big on R/C back in the day. Modfied a Traxxas Slash to go 50 MPH using a brushless engine. And i thought that was fast, but then looking at this...jesus :v:
Fuck yeah castle creations. They make kick ass ESCs. The same one that powered my crawler, powered my 80mph Rally RC. Which wasn't a very good idea because the chassis is a modified TT-01 to have the suspensions raised by 10mm. You can't even drive it past 40mph with being absolutely impossible to control.

How easy is it to slow these things down? [editline]a[/editline] This is a legitimate question.
