Love his reaction to the doors closing at 0:30.

Why couldn't they get this guy to replace Clarkson, he's awesome.
Why couldn't they get this guy to replace Clarkson, he's awesome.
Robert hasn't worked for the BBC in years and he's not really a car nut, he's more into science and technology which is why he loves Teslas so much. He's a great presenter though, be so much better than ginger shouty twat.
Looks pretty neat. I'd prefer the boot space then the extra seats, not like I'd ever need that many seats anyway.
tbh although it looks like an amazing car, those double hinged doors are a gimmick. I don't wanna know how much it costs when one of them breaks

So makes it easy to strap young kids in and such.
Why couldn't they get this guy to replace Clarkson, he's awesome.
An excellent plan, sir, with only two minor drawbacks
well hopefully the doors dont hit the other cars in a tight parking spot
well hopefully the doors dont hit the other cars in a tight parking spot
In the comments he said the doors have sensors, and even then the car has a "summon" function and it'll just drive out the parking space anyway (not sure how that'll work for going into a spot though)
can i get a version with regular doors
It's aimed at women with young kids, the doors allow you to stand up straight in the second row even if you are 6 foot. So makes it easy to strap young kids in and such.
Which makes sense in it's own way. My beef is that they don't have an option for standard rear doors and a rack on top. You can strap canoes, ladders, bikes, etc, onto a model S because the sunroof option has mounting brackets for racks. You can't do that with an X. So a sedan is more utilitarian for carrying around big clunky shit than it's nearly identical SUV counterpart. In what world does that make any sense? Not to mention the mountain of special electrical equipment, sensors, and software that goes into running them. It's a neat gimmick, but it's still a gimmick, and it's going to be a major sore point when it comes to longterm costs.
well hopefully the doors dont hit the other cars in a tight parking spot
That's actually the entire gimmick with them. They have two hinges, so they can open in extremely tight spaces. Even without that, standard gullwings can be designed to be just as compact as a standard door. Delorians are actually like that.

As you said the Delorean can open up in a fairly tight spot without hitting the thing next to it. Damn this car is fuckin dope.
well hopefully the doors dont hit the other cars in a tight parking spot
Geometrically speaking, gull wing doors have a smaller radius than a normal car door with respect to the sides of the vehicle. Since these are "falcon" wing doors the double hinge gives them an even smaller radius than gull wings have. The idea is that if you can move the hinge of the door farther away from other cars (i.e. closer to the center of your own vehicle) you will be less likely to hit said cars with said doors.
Oh hey, it's Kryten.

The deloreans door doesn't look like it has much to it below the window.
I thought these were already out. Tesla is based in my city so I usually see X's on our main highway

Because that's what it is. There is so little 'utility' in an SUV like this.

They just started delivering the signature series reservations to Canada, and are about to start the same for China. Europe by the end of the month maybe. [editline]5th June 2016[/editline] UK and Australia will get it last due to right hand drive.
