I wish it was possible for me to lose all memory of seasons 1-4 so I could rewatch it, but also have no knowledge of seasons 5-8 existing.

If you want to see the good dexter stop after season 4 If you want to admire how stupid it gets in dumbfounded awe then keep on truckin'
So if I want to watch this show stop after season 4?
Maybe, the plotlines get a bit ridiculous and it gets as if the writers had no idea what they were doing after, but to be honest 3 and 4 weren't great either in my opinion the only ones I'd say you should certainly watch is S1 and whichever one had Miguel in.
I'm almost glad I stopped watching Dexter after the 4th season. After hearing how much of a downslide it became. I'm starting to wonder about Supernatural, though I hear it's got its serious moments, and funny moments.
Supernatural is pretty good if you avoid all of the fans.
Dexter got new showrunners after season 4 that made it about Dexter's "personal journey". This led to the abandonment of all logic. S1-4 (minus Season 3, the one with Miguel) is Breaking Bad-tier television. I just hope that one day someone reboots Dexter and starts right off where [sp]Rita dies[/sp]. Season 5 should have been his [sp]downwards spiral ending with the department finding out what he really is, possibly going on the run, getting caught, tried and executed[/sp] That was the natural order of things and I feel that's how the show would have gone if the showrunner hadn't disappeared due to personal reasons.

i watched up to season 5 and didnt think the fifth was too terrible but bad enough to stop
i watched up to season 5 and didnt think the fifth was too terrible but bad enough to stop
I wish I had stopped like you. My girlfriend and I kept watching because it was like a train wreck that you couldn't look away from and every week, we were hoping that episode would be the point where they finally got on track. Around Season 6 or Season 7, it became an unintentional comedy and it was well beyond repair. Just had to keep watching to see how terrible the ending would be and we weren't disappointed.
