"Idiots blame X for Y"
It will continue forever. When we are old and crusty we'll blame the new thing that the young people do and then our children will do the same.
Now it all makes sense.
GTA 5 is an illuminati masterpiece to put down the common man and orchestrated how to shoot in the Navy Yard by going back in time due to the Mayan Secrets.
People used to think that comic books made kids violent back in the day, I can only imagine this to be a temporary trend which will wear off in about 20-30 years.
But the grand theft auto styled weapons?

grand theft auto caused world war 2

that is not a 'grand theft auto styled' gun, it's an incredibly common gun and for a navy officer it's probably a go to weapon

Not to mention it wasn't the gun he used.
Also a civilian AR-15 only fires around 50 RPM without bump/slam firing. And they were sold as hunting rifles before the US even adopted them.
Alexis used the semi-automatic assault rifle to kill 12 people at a naval installation in Washington yesterday
And if it's semi-auto then by definition it's not an assault rifle.

That article is one of the biggest pieces of shit I've ever read.
I love how they always jump on "this guy played video games" and "this guy liked guns" but they never think to mention the whole "this guy was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic with violent tendencies".
Also, notice how the Mirror article has the headline specifically saying the rifle was "Grand Theft Auto style" then the footnote says they're not implying the game is actually linked to the shooting.
I like violent video games. The more violent, controversial and fucked up the better. i like to blow people up, and loved the GTA5 torture scene. I liked how gruesome Outlast was. I like racist humor (but not out of racist thinking) and obviously I am very, very much in LOVE with a wry taste of humor, I like when people make fun of themselves in stand up comedy like Louis CK does. I laugh at jokes even though they are offensive and wrong so long as they have some form of good taste and context. I believe threatening and harassing people online in a forum like OIFY where it's all mutual (Everyone shitposts and threatens back, no ones 'feelings' are hurt) is a very fun thing to do.
but in real life, I would choose a tazer over a gun. I would chose gun regulation laws. I would chose to be pro gay, and anti war, I believe that if you get killed while robbing someone with a gun, you are to blame. I believe in non violence and believe in regulating alcohol to prevent alcohol abuse. I think schools should really enforce teaching kids to tolerate people of all cultures and color. I believe humanity will strive because of blah blah blah. I am extremely pro-rehab for everyone because I believe no one should suffer jail and deserves a second chance. I listen to downtempo because I believe music should relax the mind and body and not make you 'pumped' all the time. I play many relaxing indie games and enjoy calm lone (or with someone) walks. I believe in listening to both sides of all stories and accepting most people for who they are.
Video games where I go on a rampage and kill a shitload of people and I'm a calm, very non violence type of guy.
This is the case for 99% of gamers. Give or take anger issues, they're all just like me... they separate reality from games. because you know, gamers aren't as fucking insane anti-social serial murderers as this asshat wants you all to believe.
Just because you love horribly violent, fucked up movies doesn't make you horribly violent, fucked up. In fact, many people use it to kill stress and video games. I would recommend games in psychological therapy. They increase dexterity, problem solving and reaction timing. A surgeon would find good use in playing GTA5.
Nuclear weapons are entirely a different thing than rifles.
Yep. GTA5 is the cause for this shooting. I mean why else would he have done it before the game was released
Oh, look, GTA being accused of causing violence.
that's never happened before...
Newsflash GTA isn't the only game in the world featuring guns

THE DUDE THAT SHOT EVERYONE USED THE GUN THATS IN GTA V
oh btw the shooting isnt related to GTA V
how dumb can people get
To be honest, Cenk wasn't making himself look much smarter by blaming it on the guns. Guns don't cause violence, same way videogames don't cause violence. Mental issues are what causes violence, and what ought to be the focus of debate.

This popped into my head

im gonna hurt the next person who says video games make people violent >:I
IT WASNT EVEN FUCKING OUT YET
It's come to the point where we don't even need to know if a shooter played video games before the shooting. If a violent video game comes out anywhere near the event then video games are blamed.

TYT is fairly anti-gun and I generally agree with the statement that guns inherently don't cause violence anymore than knives or hammers do. But the "mental issues" talking point is mostly that, a talking point to deflect discussion away from real issues. Mass shootings can usually be attributed to mental illness of some variety, but deaths caused by these events are statistical drops in the bucket compared to general gun crime in the United States which has more to do with social stratification, poverty, and other precursors for crime more than them actually being mentally ill or whatever. The reasons why people commit crimes are deeper than just shouting "MENTAL ISSUES" every time someone gets killed by a gun.
While I disagree with Cenk's position on guns almost 100%, I can understand his frustration that a huge media corporation resorts to throwing video games under the bus rather than something actually relevant.
Guys, I don't see how this is wrong, ever since Mirror's edge 2 was announced, I can't stop jumping off buildings!

Well mass shootings are an entirely different case than "normal" gun violence. The two can't really be compared.
Nintendogs is now to blame for violent dog behavior
BeamNG now to blame for car accidents
I stomped on a turtle because Mario told me to.

This is what I'm picking up from this article:
They want people to believe that GTA5 made up the AR-15, that someone invented it because they loved how it looked in the game, and then people played GTA5 and wanted to shoot other people with the gun even though GTA5 wasn't out yet and none of those shooters used the AR-15.

No, they just grabbed a bunch of popular terms and shoved them into the article to make an attention grab.
