was expecting some kind of freddiew video. This is a bit extreme isn't it? 5 years ago it used to be "In case of an earthquake" or something, now its "In case some crazy ass lunatic comes to your office and starts shooting everybody"

Sometimes you expect these things from shian
Or, you know, conceal carry
Is this real?
Is this real?
yes this really happened
Or, you know, conceal carry
In a perfect world, yes. In reality, no. If I think honestly and realistically, I don't know a single person I'd trust to carry a gun. Sure, in perfect world everyone with a gun is automatically a straight, steady shooter, is granted the ability to correctly judge over another persons life without making emotional decisions. Because, since the 1800s there have only been 116 killing sprees in the entire US. Those are the only scenarios where it is "one guy with a gun shooting at everything". Every other potential crime is FAR from that obvious. Just think of George Zimmerman, we STILL don't know what the fuck was going on and there are a thousand conflicting scenarios blown in the wind by media. Imagine such scenarios for EVERY such crime. Who the hell would have the time and capability to investigate each individual case of 'was it justified?' or 'Did he make this shit up as an excuse to shoot him'.
True, there are situations when one person with a gun might have saved the day, but that is a very, VERY specific combination of specific conditions. And saying that, because of that, the solution is to always throw everyone who isn't a criminal himself a gun is just fools logic. That's why one has law enforcement. If law enforcement is obviously broken, fix it, don't make it even harder on them by turning scenarios into all-out shootouts involving civillians. If I, as a criminal with the intention on committing a violent crime would know that at least one person in the store I rob/ect is armed and intending to kill me, I'd be pretty jumpy, too. Just deal with all of them, fuck it! Guns are not gonna make crime magically disappear, criminals will adapt to it. So concealed carrying is heroic pop cultural charles bronson fantasy bollocs, the police getting their shit together is unrealistic, what cool, realistic plan involving guns can we have? Private Security? Yeah, like that could never go wrong.
Fuck guns, why does the answer to guns have to be more guns. Last time I checked, everyone in history who tried to fight violence with violence was either a tyrant or failed miserably. Just ban the goddamn things, it works for us. I am a gun owner myself, I go to the range regularly and I'm fine with tight regulations. All the crap I went over, there is no chance I could possibly be a psycho, and there are still people in my gun club that worry me, having right-wing ideas, obviously seeing their guns as empowerment to potentioally end arguments, I hear talk like "Man, if I had a gun that day, I'd have blown that asshole's head off". If they passed the tight german gun regulation tests (Which they did over personal contacts), imagine how easy it would be for such irresponsible douchebags to get a concealed carry license. Never in a 1000 years would I feel safe around them, or trust them to make life-and-death decisions. I wouldn't even trust myself with that.
Let's just search for a real solution.
Well that was both informative and sensible. A rarity among facepunch :v:
text
I can imagine trusting a lot of my friends carrying weapons, you on the other hand seem to have an extreme distrust and fear of humans, although reasonable (if what you say is true) that you overheard people at a gun range casually talking about murdering.
I think the solution is to make it harder to get a gun license. Depending on the state, Isn't it very easy to get a gun license in the US? I know that in Sweden it is near impossible, it would be frightening to know if every person over the age of 18 can get a firearm quite easily.
Another point is that people who buy guns and then commit crimes with their bought guns are idiots or crazy, police forensics teams are able to identify what gun the bullet was fired from and all they have to do is take a trip down to the gun store where the supposed gun was bought and talk to the clerk that will hand them all of the suspects personal information. That's why criminals don't buy guns legally.
So if guns were to be illegal, the only people to have guns would be criminals.
Awesome, cant wait for the next exciting episode.
Needs more explosions!

No but having your own gun to fight back with sure beats hiding behind the xerox machine waiting to die

I would rather shoot some lunatic with a pistol carried in my coworker's holster than try to beat him with a fire extinguisher when he has a shotgun. I think that the Zimmerman case is a bad example too.
Text.
You raise some good points, but banning them isn't a real solution. As explained before, all banning does is remove guns from the hands of people that follow the law. Criminals will not only still have them, but they will know no one else does. It's certainly not ideal, but for the moment it's all we have.
informative and logical video but seriously morbid
the thought of being one of the first people shot on the ground floor like they demonstrated is really going to make me more concerned than feeling prepared
Here's an easier way: have a gun in your office
Wait, wait wait, you seem to misunderstand me. I never talked about banning all guns or anything, that'd be the same fools logic reversed.
All I'm saying is that scenarios like "If we all had guns there would be no spree killers and shit would be safer" are utter bullshit. Scenarios like that are pretty much impossible to prevent. If you're hell-bent on killing a lot of people, you will find a way, guns or not. But encouraging vigilantism and self-justice, giving anyone who wants it executive authority would bring so many problems itself, it's a bullshit way to prevent your 0,5471 killing spree attempts per year, so people should stop bringing up that retarded argument. Sure, in one moment, at one specific location under extremely rare circumstances conveniently having a gun would be very useful, I won't argue that at all, that's the truth. But in pretty much any other scenario you're just dishing out extreme paranoid measures against a extremely unlikely situation.
Why is it important that people be allowed have guns again?
Why is it important that people be allowed have guns again?
So that when a criminal gets his hand on a gun (he's going to shoot people anyways, why would he care about gun laws) people have a way to defend themselves.
Why is it important that people be allowed have guns again?
gee I don't know, self defence?
Why restrict a civilian's ability to acquire a gun for legal purposes when there are criminals out there who can get guns regardless of any laws set in place?
It's better to have a fighting chance than no chance at all.
Why is it important that people be allowed have guns again?
usually when we just flat-out outlaw something, it makes it easier for people to get their hands on whatever has been declared illegal, and crimes relating to such will skyrocket
