Yeah, I was doing it for like ten minutes before realizing that. Still a good technique.

also here's a tip, if your loops are too big, or you don't have enough shoelaces, start your loops farther down the lose ends.

I've been doing something similar for a few years now.

And this is how you should lace your shoes. I'm dead serious, it's easier to do, and easier to tighten/loosen. It also looks better:
