Really can't see how this will enjoy a decent lifespan. The story is boring as it gets and 90% of the time you're just killing folks until you get better equipment with gunplay that's not special at all.
Not to mention Dark Zone is nowhere near as intense as they made it out to be.

we'll see
Does this still have that neat effect where light shines through bullet holes?
Does this still have that neat effect where light shines through bullet holes?
Yes, you can visually see through the holes and the bullet holes stay for a really long time. You can also shoot holes into a window to make shapes and the glass will fall in that shape. Snow will pile up over trekking through the same path of snow numerous times will wear it down to the pavement. Theres some other neat attention to detail.
With all the neat visual and physics things in it, this game is essentially a tech demo with cover-based shooting, RPG, and online mechanics.
Reminds me of Hazard Ops, we'll see how it turns out.
Man, the trailers for the game have been pretty damn weaksauce recently. They're all so generic. It's annoying because the game is really good.

I sort of expect it to have gone free 2 play by the end of the year

But it's not an MMO.

Yeah, that's called a RPG, it's this new crazy obscure genre.

That's a very poor rpg at best.

you're acting like that's the only kind of RPG
Because a Hack n' Slash is different from most RPGs because
A hack n slash is a completely different genre, hack n slash games are things like DMC and stuff, where the game is entirely focused on melee combat.
That's a very poor rpg at best.
No, that's just every RPG ever made.
That's a very poor rpg at best.
that's a really simple way to describe the game (alot of games). All we've seen is the tiny ass beta slice of the game and it gave me like 30 hours already in the closed beta, it has a nice mix of free roam, side missions, random missions and lore that mix with the atmosphere of being in NY. Plus the dark zone is pretty intense, if you never tried going rogue or hunting rogue's you don't really get the whole experience.
One of the biggest draws of the game is the RPG based skill system dependent on 3 trees. The cool thing being at endgame level you can have abilities from all three trees, oryou can specialize into one tree with 3 skills. Like the tree with the sentry for example, there's a really nice variation of abilities and it goes even further than that with the perks and active skills

Lol.
DMC is a slasher, completely different thing from a hack n slash like Diablo or Torchlight.
And wouldn't you know it, Destiny, a game very similiar to Division, is a hack n slash/fps.
Lol.

No, "hack and slash" in video games specifically refers to games like DMC or Bayonetta. Also how the fuck can Destiny or The Division be hack and slash games if they're shooters? If it's focused on guns, it's not a hack and slash, the name is kind of a pretty big giveaway.

Destiny didn't have a dedicated melee weapon till september of 2015, the game released in september 2014. it's not a hack n' slash still, mostly guns.

Making up random genres is silly, especially with added "lols" to make yourself sound even more obnoxious while simultaneously not knowing what you are talking about.
Devil May Cry is a spectacle fighter (sometimes called character action because for some people them being about the "spectacle" apparently meant they were too easy, even though most games of the genre were very challenging at the time, and Metal Gear Rising was the one where this term caught on, fitting due to it's low difficulty in comparison to DMC, Bayonetta and the like.) Diablo and Torchlight are ARPGs, Action RPG in a general sense has come to also fit any kind of lighter on the numbers RPG with a non turn based, ACTION styled combat system. Dark Souls, Borderlands, and yes, The Division.

Well, here in Poland there was (and almost definitely still is) a major difference in categorising games like Diablo, which are defined as h'n's and games like DMC or MGR.
I should have used action rpg though, even if it's technically wrong because there is little to no actual roleplaying in games like these.
The Division isn't bad, like I expected it to be. But it's really shallow. I don't think it'll change by the time it releases.

I got more time out of the closed beta than some games in their entirety; so yeah. It really depends if you like a game similar to destiny but TPS RPG. I think this game does quite a bit better than destiny in different places though
No, that's just every RPG ever made.
Since when has shitty grind and ultra generic step and fetch questing been intrinsic to all RPGs, let alone all the good ones?
The gameplay is basically destiny, which is an MMO, or at least pseudo MMO. For all the hype surrounding either of them, the gameplay is incredibly shallow, and has very little going for it besides the endless grind. If that appeals to you, great, but pretending that all RPGs are like this isn't a subjective opinion, it's just straight up factually wrong.

I've played too much destiny; this game is way different to destiny. It's comparable due to the psuedo MMO-ness, but it feels a lot different.
you might think the gameplay of the game is shallow, but not everyone does. People like playing diversified classes with other people in COOP or PvP settings. And the loot aspect of the dark zone is legitimately tense from my experience. I made friends with a random Canadian in a random dark zone and we became the police in the dark zone for like 4 hours. It was certainly an experience I hadn't had before

Ah, sorry, I didn't notice your flagdog, it makes sense that some of those genre terms are going to be different in a different language.
I started off not being all that interested in Division, but as time has gone on, I am starting to get more excited, might buy it soon actually as a birthday gift to myself. The tech is pretty cool, and I like the theme, plus I love RPG mechanics in shooters. I wonder how my GTX 780ti will handle it though.
Really can't see how this will enjoy a decent lifespan.
I wouldn't worry about that at all. Ubisoft considers The Division to be their most important long term release at this point.
It's the first large-scale game that's going to have a live ops team after testing it with R6: Siege. DAU is Ubi's goal now, now immediate sales.
They've refocused their angle from profiting off yearly new releases with some DLC packs to fewer releases each followed with events, expansions, and tools.
It's literally all they're talking about over there.
The story is boring as it gets
Bro you've seen the tutorial mission. That's like saying Dark Souls has a bad story because the Undead Asylum was boring.
