Title pretty much says it all.

I don't remember those missions being anything like patriotic, at all.
too bad you took a shitload from the SAS missions
I think you're reading too deeply into a game about killing programmed models that wear textures, speak in recorded lines, animated for war poses, and are just mere shooting targets for the player and nothing else.
[sp]also yeah we know the Modern Warfare series is silly and stupid, no need to make the millionth video on it :I[/sp]
[sp]cod 4 is actually a good game[/sp]
[sp]It is, and MW2 is a guilty pleasure of mine, I was just saying in general is all.[/sp]
those missions weren't overtly patriotic at all but ok
cod4 had a pretty grim US campaign in the first place
Why ?
Last time I checked, didn't the United States in Cod4 completely fail to stop and disarm a nuclear weapon and get the hit kicked out of them?
Then in the end, they teamed up with the SAS. I mean, that's not even close to the overpatriotism of the sequels. They actually SHARED THE GLORY with our allies and stuff.
COD4 was nothing like that.

The US and SAS, alongside Russian Patriots had to work together to stop the missile launch.
The US failed to stop the nuclear weapon killing 50k+ thousand people in Afghanistan.

was it afghanistan?
seemed more like "generic middle-eastern country" to me.

I'm pretty certain it was an "unnamed" country on the Arabian peninsula, from looking at the cinematics between missions.
In MW2, the war is still going on in the East, it mentions Afghanistan.

yeah I was going to say it sort of reeked of saudi arabia.

doesn't mean it's the same country, though.
the US ~could~ be running combat operations in afghanistan (like IRL) and in that other country in the MWverse.
Just checked the wiki, you were right that it's not Afghanistan in the first one, it's unknown.
Either way, it's under control by OpFor, a ~rebel~ group.
couldn't we just tell what country was it by the map?
No mention of Ramirez
0/10 would not watch again.

Wrong game.
CoD4 had a great balance between stealth missions and action missions with the added benefit of them being on separate characters and locations to avoid any "Okay now you have to be sneaky for this shitty reason" kind of things. I didn't see much "murrika" during the marines missions, other than the stereotypical black guy playing rap.
overall a great game
I wish there was a Modern Warfare: Spec Ops or something like that consisting of only stealth operations
I've never really understood why people say the modern warfare series is ultra patriotic
first game, America got its ass whooped
second game, an Army general masterminded world war 3 and sort of pulled a coup just for revenge
third game America is begging Russia for peace
I also don't get why some facepunchers think it's xenophobic or whatever, no shit you're shooting at people from other countries, that's what happens in wars

The only issue I can see is that CoD4 style stealth missions would get old fast.
I mean they were great to break up the longer shoot shit missions (Though I don't think MW beats CoD2 when it comes to sheer "when the fuck is this going to end" factor) but they'd get boring fast on their own because you're always told exactly what to do to avoid detection.

'a desert in the middle east' works
I liked CoD4. To me it was the last ~true~ CoD game made by activison. It had multiple characters(not three like the first couple but still) and focused on the common soldier with some spec op background stuff. Remember when CoDs motto was "Never Fight Alone" with the game focusing on Joe schmo and other soldiers rather than supercoolhardcore tier 1 delta force guy?

Honestly I'd have less of a gripe with the Modern Warfare storyline if it had stayed like this instead of devolving into U.S. Supersoldier #27 versus the world. COD4's story actually seemed believable, and honestly a believable story is one of the most important elements.
I got way more of a pro-SAS vibe off the Modern Warfare series than pro-American. I mean really, just play them. Americans have a habit of fucking things up and dying halfway through (or the third level) while the SAS operators do all the cool shit and save the day.
Shit the loyal Russian squad lead by That One Guy in CoD4 was more useful than the Americans.

Also love seeing people dissect each game and pick which one had the "best story". It's fucking CoD. The story is a loose collection of setpoints designed to get you through a shooting gallery.

You could say that about almost any FPS
